I'm pretty sure you have to use the mass air flow meter for a 2002 on a 2002. Here's the CourtseyParts link

http://www.courtesyparts.com/kb_sear....php?keywords=[22680]+\(a33b&cPath=1956_1957_1973_1976

The 2000-2001 guys can use the 2002 MAF on their cars, and I am not sure about the 2004+ MAF being compatible with the 2002.

thanks RR...i'd think a 2003 would work as well. in either case, has anyone had any experience with these ebay MAF's for under $100? seems too good to be true.

You're welcome.

I bought a used MAF from another ORG member, just keep looking at the classified ads.

if your seeing under a 100.00 it is most likely for an 00-01 (be sure to confirm the part number on the sensor) with the one you currently have as you can not mix and match ... personally as this is one of the more important sensors on the car with so many our parts of the engine relying on it functioning correctly ... I would contact Dave B in Texas (he works at the dealership there) he is one of the very best at getting the part right the first time.

If you look at the sticker when you open your drivers door, there is a date there.

Using that date, check www.courtseyparts.com/ for the mass air flow meter. It's part of the air cleaner.

PoLo, there are only two MAF part numbers you need to be concerned with if you are considering replacing it with a Nissan part.

22680-AM600
- This is a direct drop-in replacement for your '02 (or '03). Costs about $400.

22680-2Y001
- This is not a direct drop-in, but will work on your '02 with modification. If you had an '00 or '01, it's a direct drop-in replacement. Costs about $100. For info on what to do to make it work on your '02/'03, see this howto. Also, if you have the money & want to do what Nissan tells you, they recommend a reflash of the PCM, which might bring your total cost of going with this version $200 and about 15 minutes of extra time spent during installation.

This info only applies to OEM MAFs from Nissan, don't know about aftermarket offerings.

I would go that route for sure (00/01 MAF)
The modification is easy, and it costs a **** ton less.

thanks guys. i have a slight advantage that my friend is a service manager at my local dealer...he already quoted me ~$400 for it. it's not totally broken, he just says that on the machine it returned running EXTREMELY rich. he suggested i swap out the filter and see what that did. if not, then it may be time to replace it. it's my unfortunate laundry list of things to do to the car to get it in good running condition.

so i just read the howto and that seriously looks VERY easy to do...may consider it...in regards to the ECU upgrade, it was done yesterday (version 703) so i'm good to go on that front. i've done an ECU reset in the past so that shouldnt' be an issue.

in the how to, it showed the difference between the old mAF and the new one and how dirty the screen was. do you think perhaps i could just scrub down the mesh and replace my cone filter. again, he said the MAF was fine but running very rich so i'm trying to diagnose what's causing it to run rich, so my first step is possible improve the airflow, starting with the replacement of the filter. btw, it's a CAI.

follow up #2...so after reading up some more, i've decided that since the MAF isn't really shot, it could prollly just use a cleaning. i can still redline with no bogging (which seems to be symptoms of a bad MAF) and just drove home with a couple of high revs and it was great. btw, this all initially started with my bad gas mileage followed by my friend running a scan on the car.

some more searching brought me to this cleaning link (http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...10-w-pics.html) so i may give that a shot first (today!) while at the same time getting a new K&N and let it run for a few days and then have my buddy re-scan. let's see how we do.

thanks for all your help guys. i haven't been on this site in at least a year but now that the spring time is coming, i'm getting that itch. Thanks again.

In case nobody has seen this http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...-pictures.html

Might be something to try one weekend. Also I have a feeling to get rid of the K&N air filter in hopes it'll preserve the new MAF.

already replaced the filter and cleaned the MAF, did the ECU reset and idle relearn. good thing is with a full tank of gas and a new work week, i can really see how it does on mileage and compare. if the mileage improves, then the car is prolly not running rich anymore.

let's see.

Help!

Hey guys, just replaced a MAF in a 2001 I30t (same as maxima), the idle was too high after repair. Adjusted idle screw instead of doing relearn (DOH!). Idle surges now. Replaced IACV, nothing. Still surging 600-1500 every second, up and down. Can't tell if idle relearn procedure takes or not because it keeps surging. No codes. Anyone know if adjusting that idle screw on the TB screewed this up or is causing this? Anyone know how to set that screw back to factory?

Was your IACV bad, for sure? If so, you better hope it didn't fry the ECM as well. My IACV went kaput a year ago and it took the ECM with it.
