Well I to really like the chrome MAXIMA SE 3.5 emblem, and it most likely isn't going anywhere as I used JB Weld to adhere them, everything else is nothing more than a decal which when one gets bored with that look they just peel off. I did first remove the engine cover and taped off the the raised black 3.5 ltr and the Nissan emblem and then repainted the entire cover in Sterling Mist, wet sanded and then lightly clear coated.

Your right it may be a bit busy, but it was something that could be taken inside during the winter cold months.

You know, I would get that nismo oil cap if there were some way to insure the writing on the cap was level. It's a good looking replacement, orientation notwithstanding.

I would get the nismo oil cap if there were actually any parts from nismo on my car.... but there aren't. Nothing wrong with the stock cap and I don't see a point in advertising nismo, but I guess that's just preference as I tend not to put stickers all over my engine bay or car, either.

Still, by far my favorite! You'll have to scroll down a little on on the page, about 1/4 the way down.

It does look good, however the OP said he took his car to shows and it's the little details like the cap that could win it or lose it. At least, if I was a judge.

So I'm looking at "maxima oil cap" entries on ebay, and there are lots of caps out there. (Go figure. )

Anyway, this one is particularly attractive. I wonder how customizable that center is? Could it be removed and re-attached to insure alignment? Could it be painted over? Interesting idea, huh?

I know the cap is OT on the engine cover, but it's become part of this discussion.

I previously owned this this cap and got rid of it because of the alignment issue (no way to get it centered). I am able to center the one I currently have. I just didn't bother it for the picture.

Interesting (on the topic of the oil cap) that my 4th Gen's cap can continue rotating after it's tight (clicking sounds of the internal ratchet, similar to the fuel cap) ...
Seriously if you pay for a cap, make sure it does the same things that the stock ones do.

Kinda watchin to see which way you go with this cover...

I think for that oil cap it wouldnt hurt to loosen it 10 degrees to straighten it out... its not going to leak just turning it that much. I usually leave mine fairly loose otherwise its too hard to take off when I top up oil

back OT though... I like that cardomain 6gen for sure that is totally sick. I would do that riveted style without the dragon and red or chrome 3.5 lettering would probably look really good.

I wonder how hard it would be to paint the riveted style.... I wouldnt mind having that under my hood.

Well, since then, I've installed a CF hood (which looks freaking awesome BTW!!) The Max is going into the body shop for some minor detailing while I install Stillen sides and a new rear valence (my current one got melted where my old exhaust tip was.

So now that I am not sporting my famous hood anymore, I have no intentions of doing the engine cover like it. I was probably going to do some type of custom paint job on it. Have you seen Chernmax's cover? Something wild like that. How do you like that idea?

Yes, that hood paint job was unique. For full disclosure, I was on the fence about my overall opinion, although the red pinstripe never worked for me. If you're changing the hood, fortunately your hood isn't showcased in your new sig photo. Although, if you're getting new sides and rear valence... let's see what we can do when things settle down.

I'm psyched to see pictures of your new CF hood. Are you painting it, or sticking with the CF look?

As to the engine cover... yeah, Chernmax's cover is a fantastic piece of art. Impressive, by any measure. You could certainly do well to aspire to that project.

Hood is staying CF for now.
One of the other changes being done to the car is the removal of the black pinstripe on the doors.

Can't wait for the results

I don't see any pinstripes. Are you referring to the body side-molding?

You know what's going to be interesting? With the hood in unpainted CF, your eyelids will be drawing the silver around the front corners to the grill; almost like a paint-stroke. Look at your avatar and you can visualize what I'm talking about. That might be a really cool look.

That's it

The hood is actually painted gloss black with the CF finish.
The grill is going to be changed to the one from the company that advertised my car on ebay. They ended up sending me a free grill. I am not sure how the grill is going to look yet (glad I got it for free).

Oh..these are the things that make this fun!!! The unpredictability of how the car will look after modding it.

Wow. I don't blame you for being charged up.

Are you going to put a burger on the grill?

(I just realized what I wrote... kind of funny. But you get the question.)

I know this isn't the color scheme you're going for but I just did this engine cover for a friend. Silver letters and silver burger with black Nissan.

I think you should go with something silver black and red.

Hmm, gloss black. That's simple, clean and attractive.

The chrome burger and silver letters really stand out like that. Nice.

Paint the body of the cover in sterling mist, leave the chrome burger and chrome the 3.5

Then again I like things simple.

I just painted my cover today. All black (obviously). And I made some of my wires red. I really like the whole effect.

@Rochester, please give us some details on how you did your engine cover like that.. I love the glossy black.. the thing looks super sharp. Im hoping to the same color and gloss.. and do the cut-outs like deckedout2 (paramy).. with steel mesh behind it.

Swing and a miss. Not me, man.

The only think I ever did to my engine cover was replace the burger and paint the burger lettering red.

Don't mean to ***** your thread, Roy, but you and this thread were the motivation for me getting that Nismo Oil Cap. I just got it today, and I LOVE IT! Particularly without the NISMO decal. Just nice and gun-metal clean. It's a perfect match for the silver engine cover.

Thanks, Roy!

I've seen pictures... a polished UIM would look awesome. I'd love it! But, no. I draw the line at removing my UIM just to have it polished.

If I were to go SSIM, then yes, I'd definitely have it polished at the same time it was being gutted. But SSIM seems to be more for the boosted and juiced crowd, and not us little NA folk. When NA, it seems that our 5.5 Gen works best with spacers, SRI and VIAS-delete.

Troublemaker.
