I have 2001 nissan maxima se and i have been wanting to paint my rims either blck or gun metal. Is there anyone in the CT area that knows how to do this or even a shop. I am willing to pay, please let me know if you are interested in making some money/ Thanks.
save yourself some cash and DIY man there is plenty of vids and how to's on painting rims. clean, sand, prep and paint, u can easily do this id give it a 3 on a 1-10. a really good way to mask off the rims is to use flash cards they fit in the seem nicely
Check this out. Hope it helps at least give you an idea of what is involved. The guy seems to pretty much answer everything.
How To Paint Rims
How To Paint Rims
Painting the rims is well just OK, if you want it to last and have a harder surface coating/ more chip resistant I would suggest powder coating them in the color of your choice, you should be able to find some local shops that do rim repair and or powder coating.
I hear powder coating will weaken the rim, true?
While you can achieve good-looking results with simply painting them, you risk the chance of it coming out sloppy as well. I would shop around for the cheapest powder coat per rim, and go from there.
I've never heard this one before, although I still am open-minded and try to consider it. I think that one can argue on a molecular level, it can possibly be weakened, but it is minimal enough not to pose a threat. I'm making the assumption that some argue the drastic heat involved in the curing process could possibly weaken the wheel's molecular structure. While all this is possible, it is not something applicable when the curing tempatures are <400 degrees farenheit. Bottom line, it's an urban myth and not something to worry about.
