rear suspension??
rear suspension??
Ok,so this has been going on for about a year now and it is driving me NUTS!! every time i hit a bump, pebble, crack in the road i hear something in the rear of my car bouncing like something is loose,i looked but dont see anything that appears loose,i was thinking trailing arms m aybe? but im unsure and do not have much experience in trailing arms at all. it seems to vary side to side whichever side hits the bump harder, can someone point me in the direction because watching people look at me funny when i hit a bump is kind of embarassing lol especially when im all tinted with a lip kit and hids and a nice system going..they are probably like wow all that money into the car and it sounds like its gonna fall apart!!!help me out here
haha wow i think im going through the same thing and its deff driving me crazy. mine sounds like its on the rear driver side and its like a "tick ta tick tick".seems like its getting worse.tried jacking it up and shaking stuff and had no luck
i was hopeing when i do my struts/springs it will go away, but im deff doubting it.

let me know bro,im buyin new shocks n struts with lowering springs in 3 weeks or so....springs possibly sooner if i can find a decent set on here cheap enough...its driving me crazy not little bumps but a lip in the road or anything aside from a normal crack makes it do the same thing you're describing....let me know the outcome
Possibly a shredded strut mount? Peel away the trunk liner a little and take a look at the shock. Compare both sides and see if they are out of place like the pics below.

my rear mounts looked ok....not great, but i dont think they were that bad.....plus it sounded a little bit lighter of a sound....not so heavy
might have figured it out not sure tho, need to order it first
seems like the brake caliper pin that holds the bolt has been worn away and it jiggles a little bit.gonna replace those..if not im thinking maybe exhaust.
but you could be right too manetti, i check that out tomarrow with a camera,
thanks for the tips and vids(haha that sounds dirty sry)

So this happened on my car, just gonna throw it out there.
In the trunk on either side behind the carpet piece, pull that back, and slide your hand against the outside metal and down into a little area, I actually found water in one side and a light bulb in the other which was rolling around causing the noise.
Just check your trunks, there are suppose to be water drainage systems back there but mine obviously didn't work

yo, i replaced those caliper pins and the noise is gone....so happy.
if you go over the bump nad hold ur brakes, and dont hear it, thats it
or if you jack up your car and take off the wheel and can shake the caliper its that
could be something different but i hope this helps
thanks all

since this is a suspension noise thread....just installd new illuminas/stechs/s mounts/bearings/gasket....still getting a faint squeek, would that be bad placement on the isolators? didnt try to move them at all when i insalld them. maybe some of the other internal rubber? maybe somethin else?
thanks, jason
thanks, jason
dammit!!! this car is turning into quite the money pit nowadays!! shocks struts springs...axles.....hardware kit..rotors....pads....maf... jesus all within the last 6 months....oh and i forgot to mention ball joints control arms and a link kit too!!
so i just checked my rear mounts....definately not those....they still look brand new surprisingly considering the car has 197k on it...my shocks n struts are definately shot but i got 3 more weeks of driving on them until i can get new ones...either buying stagg shs ones or monroe sensatrac....
how did the rear rotors look?, was it that sound? idk about u..but between (Mainley)the previous owner and the year of the car...everythings gonna starte going on mine too:ie clutch, ball joints, control arms, axels.
all i know is who ever ownd this car before me....F*** YOU, your a retard and dont deserve to own a car, instead of improving my car from stock, im fixing everything he "messed" up

haha yeah thats about where im at too!! my rear rotors and pads look BRAND new and theyve been in for almost 2 years now! im kind of surprised because my fronts were put in a month before my rear and i just changed my fronts 2 weeks ago...the only thing on my car that is wrong now is suspension issues which are being foxed shortly and that retarded noise in the rear end every bump i hit...its not a huge noise but just loud enough to hear and **** me off!
bro...if you research it..check you brake pads...they sell a shim kit for the pads if they move around at all....i was thinking maybe my trailing arms but im not sure....im gonna shim my brakes as soon as i can and replace those bolts...and once i drop it if its still making the noise i just start replacing things in the rear LOL
i know 1 of the 2 sounds are the brakes....its doesnt make the sound if i hold the brakes while goin over a bump.im gonna check out the shims tomarrow, i know what your talking about. thanks brandon
Noise from the back could be as simple as a loose spare tire or the tools that go with it. Check those items as well and make sure they're not loose if you haven't already done so. That got me once. Loose tire jack clunking around.
so what could it be.....im leaning more towards something in the rear suspension still but i really cant tell...what else could possibly be loose?? whats the black box on the rear drivers side under the chassis?
yeah i just called an its actuallly 10 bucks at autozone lol, if that gets done and i still got it im going to replace the sliders and work from there, all i know is its driving me crazy
jack was out of the car when it started, its back now but the sond is still there, i checked down in the pocket of the body on the sides of the trunk, nothing there, my rear pads have about 3/8 inch of play on the outside of the caliper on both sides, i was figuring maybe my pads are rattling around going over bumps due to possibly worn or damaged hardware???
You might wanna do a close comparison between your existing rear brake hardware and those from Autozone or any auto part store, for that matter; sometimes they're missing the very same bent tabs that keep the pads snug against the caliper surfaces and away from the rotors, when the brakes are not being applied.
