Clunk ClUnK ClUnk-Top hat?

Was driving home yesterday and all of a sudden I randomly start hearing clunks, the more I drive my car the more the driver front strut sounds like it's about to fall off. I worried it could be axle, checked, thought about wheel bearing, checked, steped on the core support and basically hoped and it looks like my center nut in the top hat (that holds the top hat on) was moving up and down. Iknow your shift boots and a few other things will cause it to squeek; No, this is no sqeek. It's a complete loud annoying Clunking sound. Anyone run into this before? Also cause of these going bad? I'm assuming the rubber components wear out.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Don't have an answer for ya, but I too have the same clunk, from both the front and the back! I'm so annoyed with this car that I'm half tempted to look into that $199 a month deal on the 2010 Altimas. Hopefully it's just something simple and NOT expensive. If so, I'll go ahead and fix it.

Figured it out, the top nut just needed tightening. Grab a pair a vis grips. Put them on the strut. And tighten the top bolt. Problem fixed.

You could try a torque wrench too......

It might be a little more accurate than a pair of vice grips.

Pretty sure the vice grip is to hold the strut. But yes a torque wrench is your best friend when it comes to suspension.

As stated, I meant to hold the strut from spinning. I just used a 17+ breaking bar to tighten in.
