Tar on rims

Went to go wash the max today and i noticed i had a bunch of old tar on the rims. I tried to use a tar remover at auto-zone kinda worked but not really. Is there something else i can do to get it off? If so just dont want to hurt the clear coat. Thanks

Rain-X Bug and Tar remover works wonders. It's a gel, and it's supposedly clear-coat safe.

Spray it on, let it set for about two minutes, hit it with a sponge and hose it off.

Do this BEFORE you wash your car, though. And make sure the stuff is completely washed off. If it gets mixed in with your soap, it'll neutralize the soap and leave you with a bucket of dirty water.

Check out the Detailing forum for more stuff you can use.

WD40 will also. Its cheaper than others. Just make sure rim is cool, and do it before the wash.

Tar on rims

I had the same problem and used Goof Off. It stinks, takes time but it WORKS!

Rain-X should work. Try the industrial de-greaser 1st. Spray on, wait then scrub and hose off.

After you get your wheels clean of tar, keep the wheel surfaces waxed properly. I've been using Wheel Wax for the last 8 years, applied twice a year. Except for a few stone scratches, they look brand new, and they wash up just as easily as a well-waxed car surface does. Granted, I don't drive on them in the winter, but it's still good advice, I think.

as with all asphalt products, "Tar" can be removed with any solvent or other petrol bast product
its just up to you to know if that will mess up your wheel finish

Acetone, that's nasty stuff. Those are for manicures only.
