Steering wheel Jerk

Alright I've searched and searched and can't find the solution for this.

It's a 2000 Maxima GLE. I have new tires, axles, motor mounts and allignment got done today. My steering wheel in 2nd gear and above while I'm accelerating jerks a little to the right and left. It's not a hard jerk just a little tweak to the left and right when the wheel is straight and it ONLY does it when I'm accelerating. I do know that I have bad struts in the front and probably the rear but I don't think that's the problem, it may not help but I don't think that's a solution.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I forgot to mention that this didn;t start happening until after my axles were replaced and if it was then it was very subtle.

I looked at them the other day when I did an oil pan gasket and they didn't look cracked or anything, I will for sure check them again though and make sure, thanks for the suggestion. Did you replace those and that fixed your problem?

Had the same problem too. Jacked her up and pushed on the tire and saw the cotrol arm move at the front bushing. I just replaced the whole control arm.

Nah wasnt hard at all, assuming ur a little mechanically inclined. There are about 6 big bolts and the ball joint connecting the control arm.

Ok cool, Yah I know my way around the car, I'm no pro but I know what I'm doing . Thanks man for the response, I just had new axles put on and that's when the problem really started happening so I have the guy replacing the axles to see if MAYBE that's the reason for it. If it doesn't fix it then I'll definitely look at doing the bushings.

Took it back to the shop over the weekend and he put new axles on it, checked out the lower A arm bushings and said they're fine. It's better now, less than half of what it was and it doesn't really pull to the left at all anymore. I do have some damage on the very front cross member where it looks like the previous owner hit a rock or something. Could that have something to do with it? It looks like it can be easily replaced by removing a few bolts.

Any thoughts would again be appreciated

Well it looks like you got plenty of $$ to spend on correcting the issues on your car, good for you! But I would think that after you have dumped all that money the ride would be perfect. Or is the car not perfect?

Not plenty but just trying to get the car fine, I didn't have any of these issues until the axles got replaced. Haven't really spent that much money on the issues, maybe $400. It's riding pretty smooth but I still have a little steering wheel jerk but it's nothing like it was before.

Took it to MY mechanic and he said it could be a bad differential. What do those cost usually to get fixed? 2000 Automatic is what it is.

I have almost the same issue, but mine jerks severely to the left and right while going over bumps or hitting small holes in the road. TRE's are new, LCA's are in good condition, struts themselves are in good condition, my transmission is brand new, might be a bushing or something. My mechanic took it for a drive and made the comment that it tracks funny, but can't find the cause. I'm not gonna keep throwing money at it hoping to magically find the right part that fixes it.

Well that's good to know, not that you're having problems but that it may NOT be my differential. Does yours also do it when you accelerate on a smooth surface or not really?

Never had the issue before. Even when my diff bearings when out it didn't jerk. When the diff bearings went my wife had it in Florida visiting her parents. She called and told me I needed to have the tires looked at. Then she called later in the week and said that the sound might just be the road, cause some of the roads have shells mixed with the asphalt. Then as she got into Ohio she called again to tell me the car was making a grinding noise that got louder the faster she went but went away around 55 mph. But during this time never had an issue with jerking around, or wandering, it was as smooth as a new car, so I'm not sure what the deal is. I haven't changed anything with the car.
