Beats me dont even know what the cobe is for but if it say a o2 stimulator do that, if it say the pre-cats are bad order some Cattman headers cause I'min Cali. and cost 850 plus just for the rear pre cat.

In my honest opinion, you'd probably be better off taking it to a shop and paying them $100 to weld in a straight-piped piece. You'll still have two other functioning cats in place, so you'll be just fine.

I'd get it taken care of as soon as possible. A clogged/failing cat can cause serious and irreversible damage to your engine.

It is. You just have to find a shop where money talks before legalities do.

Just don't run around flaunting that you're missing a cat. If the shop puts the heat shield back on after the install, without tearing the car apart, it'd be impossible to tell.

Nooooope. Don't do it. Just trust me. Don't do it.

If you need something in a pinch that's going to give you good gains, look around for a set of OBX headers. Other people that have had those ones Custom Maxima sells have had issues with them rusting.

You could also go the Y-pipe route. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Cattman Y delete the precats?

spend $200 and get a warpspeed Y SHIPPED.

they delete the pre cats, give decent gains, and solve your problem. Unless it's tHE ACTUAL CAT ITSELF IN WHICH YOU WOULD JUST REPLACE THAT. Hope that helps

Ebay, warpspeed.com, etc. Wait a day of two as I have emailed the company and asked if they would be willing to put together a group deal for us on the .org ;-)

this isnt exactly something id be doing this week anyhow next thing on my list of to do things is my suspension...unless the price for the pipe is a drastic change....i got cali emissions....a new set of headers comes with a ypipe whats the difference in gains and fule mileage between the two?

-From what I can gather, you get the most gain from getting rid of your pre-cats, which improves exhaust flow. In the 5th gen, the precats are in the Y-pipe, so replacing that will yield the bests gains. In the 5.5 gen, the precats are in the stock manifold (headers), so replacing that will yield the best gains. Of course you'll see the most gains on either 5th or 5.5 gen by doing both, but if you're on a budget and have a 5th gen, I'd think a Y-pipe would be by far the best option for the money

I had the same code and I replaced the Pre-cat which is closest to the radiator. I used a Catco Direct Fit and the code cleared. $175 for pre-cat $80 to install.

yeah so 200 for the ypipe is actually the best bet...i was going to buy custommaxima headers but another orger said his buddies rusted out...i need to contact custom maxima about this because they claim they are stainless.....if they can guarentee they wont rust ill buy headers for 190 cause they come with a new ypipe

warpspeed y-pipe only gets rid of one cat not both as someone mentioned on here. i have the same p0430 code right now and was contemplating on what route to go. dont have that much $$ to spend either. I have a warpspeed y-pipe b/c I had bank 1 below threshold code and the y-pipe deleted this cat. and fixed the problem but on our 5th gen on bank two is another precat that looks like an elbow. comes right off the manifold. maxima style, what did you ever decide on?

Correct me if Im wrong, but why would you replace the O2 sensor? Its a catalyst efficiency code, which means the cat is deteriorating and not filtering the exhaust. A new sensor (not a sim) wouldnt change a damn thing for that code. The second o2 sensor is there to monitor the catalytic converter, and ideally it wants to see a pretty much straight line voltage (which indicates a constant level of oxygen) whereas the first o2 sensor on the same bank switches between rich and lean. So for a secondary o2 sensor it wouldnt change his code whatsoever. I could understand if it were a circuit code, but this is a mechanical deficiency.

The root of the cause might be a MAF.

Cool let me know how they fit and how much of a performance boost you think you got.

Car runs lean, screws up cats because of lean (hot) condition. Cats in turn fail.

Lean condition caused by failed/failing cat.

If the MAF were the case, wouldnt that affect both sides then? Since the MAF isnt per bank, it wouldnt really go after ONE cat, unless thats the side that happened to go first. But if the car were really running lean enough to cause damage, he would have a P0171 or P0174 for bank 1 or 2 being lean.

And also, the catalyst would run a greater risk of being damaged if it were running rich. Since the cat is designed to remove or reduce hydrocarbons in the exhaust, an excessive amount of HC's will increase the cats operating temperature and can effectively kill it.

Lean or rich, it's a MAF or O2's 'fault' that would cause this abnormal condition.

Or an intake air leak, among a few others
