Opioion on Nissan Extended Coverage

Just curious on how many people purchased the 6 year extended coverage? Basically it's $1000 for an additional 3 years.

well...

it doesnt get you better treatment from the service department. you still have to kick and scream to get things fixed. You should look at the exclusion list, as its not bumper to bumper. note that the basic warr. is 5yr/60K on drivetrain so you do have some coverage there.

would I buy it again? I'm not that sure that I would.

Well, my take is that it's a good idea if you plan on having to have more than $1000 in repairs for the 1st 100k miles... If you aren't, then its kind of just giving away the $1000, right? Sure, parts will break for no reason on some cars and not others, its just the way machinery is. Personally, I decided to believe that not much should need to be fixed before I get to 100k, so I chose not to get it. I guess it's really just a matter or personal preference or security...

Hmmm Somehow, my luck with cars are not really good and so I took that package. Basically I look at it as a package just to give me a little security.

No, I did not buy it.

Put the $1000 bucks in a good mutual fund and draw from the fund as needed for out-of-pocket repairs. If you never have out-of-pocket repairs, after 3-4 years you will have a hefty sum for a downpayment on a new Max.

That's what Nissan will do with your $1000 bucks. Why not do it for yourself. I really hate the way they double-up on the first 3 years. By doing that, Nissan really comes out smelling like a rose on the deal.

I bought it just because I drive a lot. The basic warranty would run out on me pretty quickly. My 2k2 already has 7000 miles on it and I just got it last Sept.

Make sure that if you get one, that its actually a nissan warranty. I had a finance guy try and sell me a platnium warranty, but I found out it was an aftermarket warranty. Nissan only has gold, silver and maybe bronze packages. The thing about aftermarket ones is that they arent required to use genuine nissan parts in the event that you use the warranty. i bought one a gold with no deductible, really paid off last time on my 95 altima but the timing chain needed to be replaced at 96K. Over $1600 for the repair and I paid $50.

I have it, 6 / 160 (6 / 100 for you Yanks), and it certainly does not get you better treatment.

If an AC or a window or a sunroof goes then it will be worth it.

If I had to do it again I would not and only because I now realize that Nissan service sucks and I will have to fight to get anything done.

Take 30$ a month and put it aside, you will have your warantee yourself.

I got the extended warranty. I figured it'll also help the resale value since it's transferable. (I've never kept a car for 6 years and I don't have huge mileage).
As for crappy Nissan service, I think it depends on the dealership. The dealership I bought my 2k from has crappy service so I went to another one in the same city and they have awesome service (and they're open on Saturdays which is really practical since I work all week).

I got the 6/75K warranty on my '97. Mine's already paid for though I messed up buying the $50 deductable. 10+ repairs so far. I didn't start modding or driving hard until 36K miles.

Mmmmm..Rear caliper, rotor, pad. Front strut & mount. Both hood supports. Trunk keylock. Evap canister. Fog lamp. UDP seal. My dealer is excellent too. Replaced the strut even after I lowered the car. Replaced the UDP seal knowing it was UR's pulley.

Another 11K still left to break next season

When they tried to sell me the extended coverage I replied with, "Either I have more faith in your product than you do, or you're now telling me something about the quality of the car which I didn't know, meaning of course that I'd better go buy a good car, one that's good enough to NOT need extended coverage." The sales pitch stopped immediately and thus no more time was wasted in discussion.

I figure if you bought a General Motors product you'd be nuts not to get extended coverage, but since you're buying GM it means you're already nuts. I bought Nissan because my past experience causes me to believe in the quality of the product.

If you're not planning on keeping the car until the extended coverage expires, I'm not sure why one would want to pay to cover somebody else - there's no way the resale value of the car will go up by the amount the extended coverage cost.
