MAF sensor replacement!

So i just replaced MAF sensor on my maxima 2003, 6sp. After replacement, i just took it out for a small test drive, the car does not pull as it used to. Does it take some time before it becomes normal? Should it drive the same as before on the first run? Or is new MAF not working properly?

Any comments or suggestions?

Remove the battery pos/neg leads overnight, replace it in the morning. That should reset the ECU.

When you clean your MAF, is it better to disconnect the battery, too?

Last Fall I replaced my MAF. Thanks to this site and some friends I discovered this is a five minute job not the 1 1/2 hours the shop quoted. Also I got the new sensor for $60 not the $488 the shop quoted. But could the sensor be cleaned? I would love not to spend even the $60 if I could just as easily cleaned the part.
Thanks

just do the ECU relearn procedure. its on the the forum somewhere and you just do it with the gas pedal. it will clear the ECU and it will let the ecu relearn the new MAF

I did the ECU relearn procedure, also removed the battery cables and left the car overnight. Replaced them and still the car lacks acceleration between 4-5.5 rpm range,

I failed to mention in my first post that the sensor is from an 00' max, I replaced the thermistor on the sensor(took it out from old one and put it in new sensor). I must say the new sensor size is smaller than the previous one and shape is a bit different too at the bottom. Once I get home I will post pictures for both so that someone on the forums can guide me the right way. At this point my car acceleration is so bad that it can't even pull even with a chevy cavalier or a stock honda civic

Two days ago the car started giving me another problem, as soon as I approach stop sign, put the car in neutral and start to brake, the car turns off, so I have to crank it up again, my guess is that fuel ratio is messed up, its either overflowed or not getting enough gas,

No CEL light yet. I thought it may have to do with camshaft position sensor (I had a 6th gen and it wud do same thing before CPM sensor went off)

Just till yesterday there wasn't any SES light,, and it turned on today. The code is P0174, which means the bank2 is running lean. So its the MAF, can anyone direct me to a reliable source where I can buy MAF for 03 max cheap. I bought one from ebay, the product I got was way different from the picture, the seller posted, returned that one and ordered another one. This time around there were connectors for thermistor but shape was different than my original MAF. I just don't wanna buy from EBay.

MAF Sensor

I work with a guy and his father is in parts. He sells MAF's at about $7-$10 apiece. That's if you buy 100,000 pieces at a time. Yes he sells by the trailer load to all the chain like Napa and Car Quest etc. He maintains some relationships with retail guys who ship out for him. It takes him forever and often the part is wrong.
TIA = that is awesome?

Maf Sensor

How do you know which Maf sensor you have?
It seems there are 2 options on the 2000 maxima and I've been told that you better get the correct one.

Ok, went and purchased the 22680-2Y001 from the dealer (unfortunately, you have to buy the whole assembly - $110.00). Installed it and the MAX is baaaaaaaack!!! I love this car and after having the coils, spark plugs, and oxygen sensor all changed it still ran crappy. Decided to take matter into my own hands and try to change the MAF myself. Glad I did, now I can go get the emissions done on it!

If the maf looks different then I'm sure it's the wrong one. I used one (2001 maf) and it worked fine. I'd return it and get a different one (as in different model maf).

What's the part number on the one you bought? It could also just be a bad maf.
Is it by chance 22680-4M500? That one should work, but I think everyone has been swapping with the 22680-2Y001

I am having idle issues on my 2001 maxima. Goes from 1500 to 2000. I replaced the TPS and nothing changed. I did unpolug the MAF while the car was running and nothing happened, kept running. Plugged it back in and still nothing. Could it be that? Shouldnt the car stall if you unplug the MAF sensor? Thanks in advance, Mike

That's the model I bought a few days ago. It was identical in form factor to my original MAF (2003 SE), except without the IAT.

Unplugged the battery, soldered on the new thermistor, swapped the MAF, reconnected the battery. Didn't do the relearn, just went on my merry way, code-less. Car runs just as well as it always has. Didn't eliminate my low end pinging, but I no longer have to worry about the MAF failing.

$95 + tax at my local dealership. Free IAT from a friend; (although you could swap the original thermistor, too.)

Yes, using CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner. That will definitely help if the MAF is simply dirty (usually a low speed stumble is the symptom you get) but it won't fix a failed MAF.

maf

after having having my car checked i was told i probably had a bad maf sensor
of course its a 400+ part at the dealer
in doing my own nosing around i decided to take a 5.00 can of computer air and clean my maf sensor and suddenly it runs like new got rid of mid rpm hesitation
also cleaned plug contacts with elec cleaner. highly recommend trying this
still running good

i've always heard that for parts like the MAF it's best to get from Nissan. I bought a 2001 MAF from daveb for around $85 and then I did the thermistor swap and everything seems fine. (did this about a week ago)

Hi, I'm brand new to this Nissan forum...but I was wondering...I own a 2000 Maxima 5spd...from time to time my car would stall on idle and led me to start-up the car over and over. Although, it only happens from time to time. I went to the dealership to get it diagnosed and they claimed to it be the MAF sensor. My question is, under budget crisis...should I clean it, or just have it replaced altogether. And, is it an easy job to do?

Joel, try cleaning it first. It is cheap and easy.

For those asking how to clean their MAF here is an excellent thread about it. http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...l?ref=esp-link

It is very easy to do and well worth it.
