Rpms to speed

Do these numbers look normal to you? Car is a 2000 5 speed.

Both pics were taken while in fifth gear.

how can it be not normal?
its a manual, the only time it would be not normal is when the clutch is slipping
its not like an auto that wouldnt lock at highspeed.

I don't know, i feel like i used to cruise at 80 at a little less than 3k rpms. I just noticed that my rpms are higher than usual. I don't think my clutch is slipping. I don't know, im just going crazy i guess lol

did you get different tires recently? Over 3k at 80 seems normal on a 5-speed.

Different tires would not change the mph to rpm correlation, unless the speedometer runs off an undriven wheel and a staggered tire setup has been installed.

Aside from possible clutch slippage (which will likely get worse rapidly if there's much rpm change), the tach could be picking up some stray pulses that it interprets as being part of higher rpms. Long time ago, ignition points bounce would do the same thing.

I tracked down an rpm vs speeds in gears spreadsheet that I recently did in which my 20AE gearing and tire data was used.

For a 5-speed manual and 225/50-17 tires, 62 mph is ~2550 rpm and 75 mph is ~3100 rpm.

It's possible that your specific car could differ very slightly from those numbers if it was originally delivered with one of the other size tires. It's really easy to calibrate an electronic speedometer to within 5 wheel revolutions per mile out of 800 or so that these tires are approximately at.

On unleaded stock tires of course.
