Park/Neutral position switch trouble code - P1706

I am getting the Park/Neutral position switch trouble code - P1706 on my 01 5spd Maxima.

I have the FSM, and it says either the harness/wiring is shorted, or the sensor itself is finished. Can anyone provide me with a picture of the actual sensor (the one in the FSM isn't too helpful), or a good description of what to look for? How difficult is this fix?

Thanks

Okay I am actually somewhat familiar with this switch I realised. I broke one on my 4th gen when I was doing the MT fluid change. It looks like this:

Question: Does anyone know if the 4th gen and 5th gen use the same switch?

Hi,

I cannot readily identify the switch on the transmission. Can anyone supply a photo of where it is?.

Also, some other forums are saying that manual transmission cars don't have this switch?.

I can't help you with the photo, but I would suggest you read the first 2 posts carefully and never go back to those other forums.
