So looking at these 1/4 mile times our 5.5 gen Maximas are faster than the 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP? How can this be I mean it's a supercharged 3.8 liter V6

It's a Pontiac.

In all seriousness...
GTP weighs approx. 220lbs more
HP and Torque max out quicker than Maxima
240HP from a supercharged 3.8 seems extremely low.
These things can handle much more with smaller pulley, intake, exhaust. From the factory, they are dogs...

that engine has a ton of potential. stock they are slow as poo.
also the fact that no 'good' diff is available for them means that anyone making serious power goes through them quick also the trannies arn't that strong.. oh and they are all autos. a 6pd maxima could whip it on an auto x course any day of the week.

GTPs have the low end, Maxima's have high end.
GTPs weigh 3,500-3,600lbs, Maxima's weigh 3,100lbs
As far as HP numbers on Paper. I'm 260hp at crank but dyno at 245whp, but I'm also a 2004.
Na wtf do I care? You kids can play I have bigger and better things game, cause at the end of the day the grass will always be greener and some one will always have bigger and better things.
Nothing special about a GTP or a Maxima....now a Ferrari F430...thats a different story
I love you Grandie!
So...I may need your guy to overbore a vq35 block 0.020 for me and do some head work on some vq35 heads with titanium valves in the near future

ummm...quite the opposite actually. the one i went up against in my old SS was a 5 speed. he was pushing 17lbs of boost and clipping 12.6's at 114. he custom made his own tune for that matter.
do not under-estimate a DSM. those tranny's can easily withstand 500hp anyday of the week with the appropriate mods. the Eagle Talon is another dangerous car to encounter (i found out the hard way). their trannie easily puts up with 500hp no problem.
and the "no good" diff? do know this from experience or are you just guessing? because im speaking from experience and actually witnessing a DSM with a solid built bottom end and stock tranny and AWD setup, clip low 11's at the track.
And i insure him to this day, as the car is his daily driver! (liability only of course)
the hardware on these DSM's, was very very good for its time...hell..it's still good!
P.S. i love maximas with all my heart..but no way is a 2WD car going to beat an AWD ex-rally car on auto-X. sorry....

we are talking about the 3.8's auto tranny...not a DSMs buddy....
edit: oh i see how you got confused. DSMs are rather amazing. you can make them fast cheap, i'm all about them. i was refering to the the gm tranny's. the dif uses clutch's which even the best one from intense wear out and have major issues. IDC what intense likes to say about them i know a bunch of guys who have had nothing but problem with the trannies and diffs when they try to go fast.

That VR-4 is still a SH*tsubishi! I've never seen a nice mitshu with 100k miles and no mechanical problems. And I dont think too much of GM engines or tranny's with over 150k miles. The 3rd and 4th gen's built in Japan with the VQ and VE(which I've owned both) are hands down the best car you will find. I see tons of 3rd and 4th gen busted and nice maxima's here in FL. Thanks to that---parts are cheap!

and that's nice. you're entiltled to your own opinion (biased i might add) seeing that you've owned nothing but nissan's, i'm not surpirsed by your comment. every manufacturer has it's flaws...some more than others, In my opinion, Mitsubishi makes some kick A$$ cars, but i just think that they don't do enough R&D into their own vehicles to make them last longer.

Sort of OT, but I think some of the better made cars were the mid 90's Lexus'. My brother's 95 sc300 just feels so much more solid than my car in every way.
And as far as Mitsubishi, I can't speak for their mechanical reliability, but I do see TONS of Galants with paint that is completely faded off, and they aren't even that old.

well plus there were only 1000 Galant VR-4's shipped to the US. but im sure they were a fun car.
Maxima>GTP its simple...you know the reasons why and yes not all turbo cars are really taht fast but they are must cheaper to make faster.
done and done.....next

And as far as the GTP thing, my friend smoked me (on the track) in his Regal GS.
For those of you who don't know, the Regal GS has the same supercharged engine as the GTP, a 3.8l.
He has rockers, pulley, headers, and other things that I can't remember.
He ran a 13.6.
To be honest, I was thinking "lets get real, it's a Buick" at first, but that car proved to be the best sleeper.

the average age of a Buick shopper last year was 70 years old. designed for people about to die should be their slogan.
for small money you can make the 3.8 put out some good power. i just hate the tranny.
you can make a 5.5 just as fast if you invest the same money i'd wager.
