Noticed a coolant leak coming from an area where the rad hose connects to this outlet from the engine:

Anyone knows what could be causing that? The hose looks fine to me. Sorry about all the newbie questions, I am starting to get a little upset with this purchase.

I think thats where the ECTS is and that leak looks like coolant leak. The radiator could of been over full or the resivour was full. If not that than the hose is really old.

Whatever it is, which I can't tell from the picture, its minor.. It looks like the upper hose as mentioned above.. Why not just replace the hose, clean up the aluminum and see if the leak persists? (I'm thinking no)

If you had a leak underneath the car coming from around the oilpan I'd be a little more concerned (water pump)

Thats exactly what I am considering. I was going to remove the clip and replace it with a screw-type fastener, remove the hose, clean the area, and replace. I guess because of the coolant loss I would experience during this, I should probably do my coolant change at the same time too.

Try replacing the clamp 1st. If that doesn't work, then do the hose too.

Or you can just top it up if it looks fine.. I wouldn't sweat doing a coolant drain/refill over changing a rad hose.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with doing a drain/refill either though. Maintenance is good.

True. I remember on my 4th gen that the clamp came undone on its own while driving. what an interesting experience....

You already have the hose off to replace the clamp, and you are already loosing coolant in the process. Doesn't make sense to leave the old hose there if its suspect.... It's not like they're expensive.

I recommend replacing hose regardless, and clamp as well.

True, I do not want to go through the hassle of this if it is the hose.

Just another piece of information that I could have used but didn't find in my searches. My leak was coming from the throttle body heater underneath the throttle body. I had to rent a radiator pressure tester from Advance Auto and try it out. I pumped it up to 15 psi and coolant was instantly on the ground. With the radiator only building up to 13psi the leak wasn't that fast or noticeable so I only saw the coolant level dropping in the overflow tank day after day but nothing on the ground.

I have exactly the same leak. I'm losing about a cup of antifreeze every 4-5months. It's barely noticeable.

I had changed out my original hose to one from advance autoparts, but that hose sits a tad loose compared to the OEM hose.

One of these days I need to buy a hose from the dealer and put it there.

Word of advice: Make sure you buy the OEM hose and not aftermarket!!
