Consult II, Nissan Data Scan II, other Emulators

I'm looking for an easier way to reset the ECU and to do relearn procedures other than the whole acceleration pedal dance, and the most obvious thing was the Consult II.

From what I've seen, there are different emulators out there, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience or info on them? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, let me know and I'll post it in the proper place.

What I want to know is:
What other emulators do you know of?
Have you used it?
Did it work well?
Did it allow you to reset the ECU and do relearning procedures?
Did it give you any issues with your car?
How much did it cost you?
Where did you get it?

If you have any more comments or details about it, please do share .

Thanks

Cipher by UpRev.
Turn the cooling fans on at will
Adjust BTDC ±2º
Adjust idle ±250
Perform a cylinder pressure test
Fuel pressure test
Reset learned driving parameters
Check/Clear ABS & DTC codes
It's got the IAVL reset button, but I can't remember if it actually performs this, or verifies it has been done. I forgot.

It's not as advanced as the Consult tool, just sort of a little bit.
$0.4K.

Im pretty sure you're better off to just do the pedal dance bc any device that does anything useful with our cars computer is extremely expensive. That or just pay a tech at the dealer in cash and they can do it in a couple minutes.

Just bought the Cipher via Uprev last week. According to UPS it is en route to me, so I'll get to play with it then and see what it can do. Only downside is that it has only been tested and at the moment only proprietary to Nissan and Infiniti vehicles. I'll make that assumption myself once I get it in and hook it up to the Solara. I'm thinking as long as the Japanese manu's use CAN 1, then it should work.

Nice, I'll do some research on that. I know there are some programs available for download online for free that have some functionality. I'm not sure if they work or not though. $400 bucks hmm..., I'd like to know how that works. From what I've read, nissan charges about $100 for doing the relearns for you. Id rather just do it myself instead of giving them a few buttons to press a few buttons on the consult...

I think it(Cipher) is just what you're looking for.

I love mine.

Being able to log cam timing, IGN timing, MAF flow in gm/s, and speed is pretty awesome.

Plus, you can charge your friends to change their base timing to 17 and charge them for it.

Also can adjust idle, etc. It's pretty darn cool IMO.

Are there additional cables that are needed? They have it listed at $200 but maybe they have reduced the price?

My purpose for the purchase.

Nothing extra needed. Plus updates and new firmware are free via onsite downloads unlike AE.

I see you guys like Cipher...has anyone tried NDSII? The software appears to offer some of the same options Cipher does. I'm thinking of getting it myself.

Fixed my SES light problem and was able to do the dance successfully in 2 tries lol. But still a good thing to learn about I guess. Any more of these simulators? I heard there are free ones out there.

OK. I have NISSAN DATA SCAN II with BLAZT II adapter. It works perfectly in my windows 7 32 bit laptop for any NISSAN with consult 2 protocol.

1. I can set TIMING, LEARN IDLE, set idle, clear ECU learning, check the cylinders, program transponder keys, BSD, monitor all the parameter in most of the sensors on the fly. Reading and clearing codes as OBD 2 scanner for other made (Toyota,Honda, etc. )

2. The set is permanent, will not reset by turning the engine off or disconnecting the battery.

3. Advance timing for more power or retard timing for reduce the light pinging when put bad gasoline or regular grade.

4. You can buy it from me for $126 (shipped).

Program Immobiliser Key - allows to register the Nissan transponder keys with the Immobiliser Note: The immobiliser security PIN CODE needs to be known. Initially all registered keys will be erased and all keys will need to be reregistered.

Hmmm

Cipher cannot do idle adjust back down to stock...not after you install spacers and get high idle anyway.

Ask me how I know. Lol

The immobilizer PIN CODE is usually stamped on a little metal tag that comes with one of the keys. If you don't have it, your local Nissan dealer should be able to get you the PIN if you are able to provide the VIN number and the BCM serial number.

So, for almost a half price of uprev Cipher you got more options. Besides that, you got perpetual support from the programmer: software and firmware. 3 years warranty on hardware. It is USB 2 connector, very compact and light with long enough USB cable. No need registration.

You got a high idle after installing the NWP Spacers? I am guessing you may have a very small intake leak somewhere. The Spacers will not cause you to have a high idle.

Let me know. I'm happy to help.

Oh it's cool, Aaron, I figured it out. Hell even the spacer install instructions suggest there might be a high idle issue after installing spacers...and to do the Idle Relearn Procedure to fix it.

After trying for at least a dozen times to reset my idle and failing I checked Cipher to lower my idle manually. Wasn't an option but I noticed my idle was somehow already set at 250+...I was idling at 900 still after lowering it to factory in Cipher. Did the Pedal Reset instructions again, disconnected battery for awhile and all is good.

Sorry for the late update. I have not sold my Blazt 2. I used it on my Altima with QR25DE 2002-2006, and Maxima VQ35DE. Some supported vehicles are not listed in NissanDatascan.com website but generally any Nissan and infinity that compatible with Consult 2 will fit.

It can control the ECM, BCM, and SRS. Unfortunately I have not check the ABS since my Altima do not have ABS. I still have it, just contact me.
