Question for 6MT HLSD owners.
Does anyone know if when you have both the wheels off the ground in a HLSD 6mt if they will spin in the same direction.
I have been told that helical transmission will appear to act like an open differential when there is no load on the wheels?
Can anyone confirm when there car is off the ground that if one front wheel is turned the other wheel will turn in the opposite direction.

They both turn in the same direction. Unlimited slip only spins one wheel. That's in nuetral, I've never put it in gear.
Unless my cars are freaks haha

If the car is on a lift and you spin one wheel, the other will not move, if it is in neutral.
This is probably because of friction. I imagine if you could spin it fast enough, the other wheel would start to spin backwards.
HLSD's behave like open diff's when there is no torque present, as it is a torque sensing type device.

I would like to know how will behave if you have the car in neutral with both wheels off the ground and spin one wheel.
Which of the following will happen, if the car has a HLSD
a) Both wheels spin same direction.
b) Both wheels spin opposite directions.
C) One wheel spins and the other does nothing.

Just as I moved to CA my OEM HLSD started to make bearing noises no shifting issues just bearing noises I was going to buy a 03 6mt locally down in LA with 60k for $400. it was on car-part and i was like i will get it next week since i didn't think anyone else would be looking for one. then it was gone ,you bought my tranny i wanted.....The 400 tranny in LA I was going to buy!!!!!
Thanks for the information
I ended up getting a 04 30k 6mt from back in massachusetts which is ironic since that is where i moved from. Shipping the tranny here was $200 ouch I had them check the vin and it said it was a 6mt HLSD. I installed it this weekend and wanted to make sure it was a HLSD.
I was also under the impression because of the VLSD in my 99 SE that if it is a limited slip both wheels will spin in the same direction when turned. I never bother before removing my old trans to spin the wheels to see what happened. We installed the 04 trans and I spun 1 wheel and the other didn't move so i thought for sure the had sent me a open 6mt not a HLSD 6mt.
However after driving for 3 days i was confused because it girped and felt like my old trans so i had a dealer check the vin and he showed me the options list screen shot saying it had a LSD. I told him that i installed it and it is open since only one wheel and his explantion was very similar to Unklejoe's. I figured I would post to see what you guys have noticed .
This is what happens with mine One wheel spins and the other does nothing.
