Timing and High Idle

Hopefully someone knows the answer to this question. Last week, my car had a high idle due to the TB being cleaned. When I had a chance to check the timing with an OBD II, I found that the timing was retarded to 8 BTDC... Since then, I've done the pedal dance and the idle problem went away, and its idling back at around 625 ish (02 6 speed). I haven't had a chance to check it yet, but should all the relearns, resetting ecu, throttle position learning, IAVL, etc, reset the timing as well? I sorta feel like the car's running better, but haven't had a chance to check my timing. My SES light turned off now, so is it safe to assume everything's good?

Use the OBDII to check codes now and later (100-200 miles)... and see what pops up, if anything.
