You will probably need to give more detail about the kind of overheating problem you were having.
Was it overheating at idle or while you were at cruise speeds?
What made you think that you needed to change the thermostat and the water control valve?
Have you purge out the air from the system?

It only overheat when you get to a stop? If it doesn't overheat when you are moving, you might have a problem with your fans. Have you checked to see if they are working correctly or if they are working at all?
You also might want to check if the coolant is actually circulating; at normal operating temperature, the upper inlet hose should get hot.
Air pockets in your cooling system is also a cause for overheating. After changing or replenishing your coolant, you need to purge the air out of the system by running the engine, with the radiator cap off, for about 15 miniutes, revving the engine to around 1500 rpm's every couple of minutes or so, and topping off the radiator if the coolant level goes down. After that, go for a drive then let the engine sit until it cools off a bit and check the coolant level at the radiator and reservoir; add coolant if necesary. (I think that is the procedure, someone correct me if I'm wrong).
