First, this should be posted in the Detailing section.

On topic, you want to De-grease it first. Grab some engine degreaser and some all purpose cleaner and clean up the engine bay. There are other threads about this in that section.

Then once it's clean, you can add shine/protectant. Simple theory applies to all aspects of the car. Clean then protect/shine/wax/gloss/etc...

Coin pressure wash, open hood and go to town. Just make brisk sweeping motions with the high pressure soap and rinse. Then use the clearcoat wax stuff after, it'll leave the plastics shiny.

Also can use any over the counter degreasers before using the high pressure soap.

Mine was sprayed with Armor All tire wet shine crap a few weeks back. She's in need of another wash though.

Engine degreaser

I use Engine degreaser first, and then I use armor all. They work pretty good.

I used Formula 88 on my 3rd Gen when I had it, haven't done anything to my 5.5 Gen yet. Came out super clean though in the 3rd Gen.

Just make sure your engine is cold before spraying water on it. It can cause cracks in metals that cool too rapidly.

I'd also let the engine sit (like for a day with the hood open in the sun) to make sure it gets dry before trying to start it, all it takes is some rogue water in a sensor to short it out.

all you need to do is cover the intake (if cone)

i washed the engine bay on my 00 and 02 about 100 times each...after hosing it off, i started it and let it run for a few minutes...never had an issue

I've always used Dawn dish soap in a spray bottle. 1 part Dawn to 2 parts water. Spray away, and then just blast it with the garden hose.

Use an air compressor or leaf blower to dry everything off.

I've never dressed my engine. Just kept it clean and waxed the engine cover. Last time I used Armor All, it sealed a bunch of gunk into the upper IM and now it looks tarnished and brown.

How many more times will we be going over this? Is there going to be an exam?

Dish soap, that should work. And the leaf blower, that's awesome to dry off the water. I use it to blow the dust off after the spring pollen season. Lot of pressure.
