Head light sensor

My 2000 GLE has never had any problems with the "auto" headlight sensor until recently. My headlights are occasionally going on during broad daylight-and we are talking 103 degree weather in New Mexico. This is happening periodically during the day.

If anyone else has had this problem, please advise if it requires replacement of a sensor, fuse, or whatever. Do I have to take it to the dealership or is this something that is easily repaired?

Thanks!

I know if you go under bridges and tunnels they flicker on for a few seconds but haven't heard of this one. GL.

Do you put things on top of the dash?

Sometimes when I first start my car when its hot outside / dash in direct sunlight my headlights turn on automatically.. (When the switch was left on AUTO)

I keep my switch on OFF ever since I got my HID Kit in.. Don't want them turning on and off for short periods of time.. Not good for the bulb I've heard. :P

wipe the dash down good, and make sure the sensor for the light is clean and clear of any type of blockage

Head lamp sensor

Is the sensor located on top of the dash board? (Sorry-I'm not exactly mechanically inclined-only a mechanical engineer).

The only thing I had on my dashboard was a temporary handicapped document for use until I receive the blue one that hangs from the rear view mirror (dealing with a lisfanc fracture of the right foot-in plain language, I slid in some dirt while trimming a tree causing my toes to bend underneath my heel and wrap around and hit my ankle bone-result-2 torn tendons, multiple fractures of top of foot and entire arch, separation of 2nd thru 5th metatarsals-in a wheel chair and non weight bearing cast for 8 months-just glad I have a foot).

I'll remove the folded up temporary document & see if that solves the problem.

Thanks all.

the sensor is to the left of the steering wheel right by the windshield

The problem I find with my sensor is that fact that it doesn't detect at certain light levels and therefore the lights don't come on. At dawn or dusk, it will activate the lights, however sometimes when it rains the light isn't low enough of a level to kick them in.

No biggie here, but since they just changed laws in Ohio so that if your windshield wipers are on your lights must be on...just means when I go for the wipers, I turn from auto to on on the lights.

Just use the switch. I never have it on auto.

I make sure they are on when raining and when it needs it.
