AT shifting into 4th issue

My car is an '01 SE, 4AT with 132K on it. Starting at 50K I've drained the AT sump every 10K and at 115K pulled the return line and did a complete change.

Recently I've noticed when I first start out in the morning the tranny doesn't want to go into 4th for the first 2-3 miles. I'm stuck at 2,000+ rpm's doing 40 MPH. After a little bit of a warm up it kicks into 4th and all is well. Where this is a recent change I'm curious as to what might be going on. Rather nip something in the bud than wait for it to maybe get worse.

Thanks in advance!

I always thought that was normal. My '01 Celica used to do that, and I think my Maxima does that too.

It's possible that I just didn't notice it before....as the car gets on in miles I do pay closer attention to things.

Perfectly normal. The tranny fluid temp needs to reach operating temp before it can go into OD. Both my A32 and A33 have done this.

Thanks, nmexmax. Looks like my issue then is getting into D3. I get two smooth shifts then it holds for a couple of miles. I know about the torque converter lockup and that definitely takes more time.....especially in New England winters!
