I tried to access several different DIY and how to threads today for generation 5 cars. Unfortunately, I can't find any links that actually link to the subject posted. Most go to a thread unrelated to the subject, others are simply dead ends.

Yeah, they clearly had some kind of forum overhaul in ~2003ish that caused their thread numbering system to start over. I've yet to run across an explanation as to how it's worked around, but I'll try searching and see if I can report back before you get mauled.

"I noticed you mentioned trouble with old threads not linking etc... I believe a server change screwed up a lot of old threads, etc... The trick is, in the URL to change "showthread" to "oldthread", and hit Enter. It will go to the original link."

Boom, headshot.

But I can't figure out how to get it work, since none of it is in the PHP format like forums.maxima.org/5th-generation-maxima-2000-2003/showthread.php?&f=7&t=123 vs oldthread.php?&f=7&t=123. I'm not seeing it mention anything on the thread's number, as the new system is http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...00-2003/THREAD NUMBER-ABBREVIATED TITLE.html and playing with URLs is getting me nowhere.

Under the DIY and how to links, I can't find any that work.

Maybe the best thing would be to recreate the threads?

The first couple of links I just tried worked - so maybe there was a glitch earlier. Earlier I tried about 10 links, and non worked.

This is the place that they all point to the wrong destination

looks like a lot of useful information that is presently unusable
