Help: Clutch clicking/popping when pressed or released.

Guys,

I've got a weird annoying issue. I tried searching, didn't find anything.

I've got a 02 6spd maxima, w/o limited slip.

Couple of days ago something started that I have no answer for, the clutch clicks/pops whenever you press it, or release it after it was pressed. It's NOT consistent, I haven't been able to replicate the sound, it sounds metallic, and it doesn't sound like it's in the motor or the clutch, it sounds like it's in the clutch pedal assembly but I don't see anything wrong with the action when I look at it.

It seems like it only happens 75% INTO the action, or 1/4 of the way off the floor board. It does NOT happen all the time either. Like if I clutch it 50 times in a row I doubt it would do it. But if I'm just randomly driving then it'll do it and won't do it again. Weird.

Any ideas? Could it be a broken spring? It couldn't be a throwout bearing could it? I have no ideas.

Either a hinderance in the pedal mechanism or the TB/TB mechanism.
Where is the noise coming from, engine bay or cabin?

Definitely the cabin. Doesn't feel or sound like anything in the engine bay.

Mine does that. It almost sounds like some sort of spring is binding up.

It is the spring. It is basically dried out, and should be coated with silicone spray or some other lubricant. This proved to be a fix for me. If it gets really bad that pop becomes a very, very annoying squeak that drives you nuts, even when the music is blasting, and it becomes much more frequent than just the occasional pop.

Lubricant = To much to hope for!

Lol. If that's all it is that'll be awesome. I did get under there and pump the pedal while watching, but because it's so random I couldn't duplicate it while watching it. I'll try some lube and go from there.

Thanks fellas.

Clutch pedal clicking noise resolution

I had this same clicking noise and replaced the clutch pedal spring and clutch master cylinder. Neither of these helped to eliminate the annoying noise. The fix for me was to adjust the clutch free play. Good Luck!

^Huh? You mean pedal free play? Cause there is no free play adjustment on our clutch system.

might wanna take another look, i have adjusted pedal freeplay from the clutch pedal in both my 03 and newly aquired 01. There's a threaded rod under the dash where the clutch pedal assembly is.

Precisely what I said.

There is no adjustment other than the pedal, which is NOT a clutch adjustment, it's a CLUTCH PEDAL adjustment. Very different thing.
