I love my maxima to death but there are some things I wish nissan would have done differently on the 5th gen maximas

Heres my thoughts and dislikes

1. bose h/u playing one side of the car gets annoying..
2. sub cutout has pissed me off where i unplugged it..
3. stock suspension is squishy as hell..
4. brakes are wayy to soft for my liking..
5. the rubbing sound coming from the right strut tower when you reverse..
6. factory bose h/u doesnt play mp3s..
7. chrome trim around the windows, most people like them, some dont...
8. rear window wind noise..

I've only had it for two weeks ... but I can't stand the sticky paint on all the plastic trim pcs. It's driving me nuts.

BTW is this an issue only on the 2000-2001 models? I have seen some 2002-2003 trims and the trim paint quality seems somewhat different.

1. Turning Radius
2. Suspension
3. Rattling
4. Steering Wheel too big and lacks telescope adjustment
5. Rear overhang looks ugly
6. Altezza Tail lights ugly
7. Wind noise
8. Seats are too flat and lack side bolstering
9. AT shifter is clunky and noisy
10. Torque Steer

Did I mention turning radius?

With exception to (valid) complaints about the tractor-trailer turning radius, just about all these things can be addressed with proper maintenance or modification.

This is kind of pointless. There's already a ****-in-the-wind thread here:

If you are talking about the ash tray and shifter console, they deteriorate over time and become sticky.

I have a 5spd and the parts for the 2002+ are direct replacements but made of a different harder plastic. Plus they are nicer. So, I just swapped them out.

One of the best things I've done.

Yeah those are the parts that I'm talking about. I'm been trying to get parts at the nearby junkyard (they have an 02) but they want to sell me the entire door and not the trim pieces. I guess I gotta wait until someone parts out a wrecked one.

Yeah, gotta object to that one. Single-axle day cabs, even with those massive 11R22.5 tires, have a tighter turning radius than my '02 with 245/45/17. Tandem-axle day cabs and sleepers have a MUCH larger radius, though.

Because although HLSD is appreciated by the enthusiast driver, Nissan designed HLSD in the Maxima for snow. That's why most HLSD configurations are found up north.

I don't think that I necessarily "hate" all the above (even though I agree) but the PRO's outweigh the CONs so much that I don't even notice them.

all you need is a hammer and some washers and a new lug nut ( and MAYBE have to remove the brake caliper depending on which side front or rear )

i wish Nissan would have just went with ONE crank position sensor and not have the tone wheel behind the flywheel...other than that i love it!

Turning radius.
Worst factory stereo on the planet. (BLOSE)
6MT trans is not perfect. (3rd)
Oil burning.. I can live with it, but it's still kinda crappy..
Random problematic things like EVAP system, VIAS.
Requires 91+ octane.

I do love the car overall though, and for what it is, gets reasonably good mileage.

I own a 5th generation of maxima,It has good part and also bad part but i cannot say hate it only can say dislike it.My conclusion as following; When it function normal it is very good but when start bad it is very lousy .Start few month ago my 2000 max when reach 110,000 mile lose power, rough idle, stall, run up rpm but no go. terrible not safe to drive.Spent many hundreds to dealer; change coils,sparks,O2 sensor not get any better. Finally I purchase my own code scanner(good one with live data, freeze data,i/m data) and completely exam my car by my self. And change out put speed sensor,MAS and the car completly reborn.Compare to other car;Honda accord v6 is more solid feeling less problems need to be fix.

- the center piece conflicts with my elbow when I try to shift
- leg room
- the problem with the 6spd 3rd gear crunch

Doesn't need it?
Compared to actual sports cars, that car is a beached whale on a track.

The gap between the seat and the center console...ALWAYS drop my phone. And to get it back you have to get out of the car, go behind the seat and get it. >:O

Key words there..."actual sports car" apples to oranges, why not compare to other 4 door sedans? Despite the whole 4DSC thing, FWD+4 doors never equals a sports car. Sorry. Appreciate what it is...if it was a perfect car, there'd be no points to mods. what fun would that be?

Great point, Rhyno, particularly about modding. But I think Craig was referring to my comment when I said the Mustang does all right with a live axle. That's what I thought on my last test drive, and having read much the same in most reviews on the current model Mustang.

However, I'm no expert. So if Craig has serious track experience with the 'stang, I'd defer to that.

The sticky trim "paint" is driving me nuts! Been working on wiping off the problem areas. Looks like glass cleaner works without damaging the plastic underneath. I have the black interior. I tried a little bit of laquer thinner around the shifter, and it not only removed the paint, but it jacked up the plastic underneath it! Grrr! So, I'm going to get sandpaper and scrub it off and smooth out where the laquer thinner "ate" into the plastic, and maybe spray it with satin black to give it a nice clean look.

LOL! On the G35 boards, this very thread is 103 pages long!!!

I hate more little annoying things about my G35C than I do about my Maximas. On the Max, I hate the turning radius.

Turning seems like one of the bigger issues but I enjoy my max. Going to change the radio soon so that problem is solved.

In addition to the turning circle (which was greatly improved when I removed the SE bumpstops), I'm bugged by how loud the car is inside, way louder than most cars. Also, the "on-off" behavior of the throttle while cruising. Most annoying.

Overall, very satisfied. At the time I bought the car (Dec 2000), it was really the only car I considered. There are much better cars now, but I got what I wanted back then, and I'm still happy.
