New type of Overheating problem

Read this and see if you can figure it out.

1. Both Fan's Work
2. Both upper and lower radiator hoses get hot
3. Heat works
4. Maintains temp while driving 60+mph
5. Maintains temp while sitting in traffic with A/C off and A/C on
6. Coolant level is fine in the tank and radiator.
7. I have had it up on ramps with the heat on to try and get out all air...maybe not all came out.

Here's where it gets tricky and when it over heats

I only overheats when pointing down hill SOMETIMES. My wife can drive it all over town on a hot day and it does fine. When she gets to the house and parks it she is on a slightly down hill slope, it starts to climb quickly and she shuts it off. Then coolant is spewed from the overflow tank.

It drive it around town to duplicate her trip and I park it and it doesn't over heat.

We are all in the car going to a local shopping center driving down hill on a slight slope it starts to over heat so I pull into a spot and it spews out of the overflow.

So there it is any ideas?

First let me say I am not an expert on this.

At first I was going to say that it could be that you just have a partially clogged radiator. Everything works as advertised, but you are not getting the cooling efficiency that you should.

But hearing that it's only a problem on a downward slopes makes it sound like a definite air pocket in the system problem. You have a bubble trapped somewhere possibly in the top of the radiator or in the motor near the water pump). When you park a certain way that bubble is stopping the flow and causing the overheating.

I have read about the horrors of getting the air out of these babies, but haven't done it myself yet. Do some searches because I seem to remember a many threads advertising the best way to get air out of the system.

Good Luck!!

How would air get in there? Did you have something replaced?

Air in the system: There was air in there from the previous owner. Had to top it off a few times. I did raise the front end quite a bit off the ground and burp in accordance with the FSM MA-14 until no air was produced through filler cap.

They only problem with my system is that the dome piece that houses the WCV doesn't have the bleed screw so there could easily be an air bubble trapped in there.

Today I replaced the Thermostat and WCV. Thermo looked fine. WCV looked like it needed replacing.

I will update with further information soon.

Ok, wife brought home the car today and it spewed coolant all over the ground. I think I'll have to invest in one of those funnels that attached to the radiator and help with bleeding air from the system.
