Clutch Question

The clutch on my 2K SE is feeling weird, it is engaging closer to the floor than I remember it, plus the pedal feels strange for about the first two inches or so of travel. Car has 138K miles on it, not abused or raced. Is it time for a new clutch, or something else (slave cylinder)?

TIA

Keith

could be but from what you are describing i have a feeling your problem might be with the master cylinder, slave cylinder or the piping between. They have a rich history of going bad in our cars.

The easiest way to tell would be to do a re-bleed of your system and if everything is back to normal then you start looking for the culprit. The little rubber hose just before the slave cylinder seems to be the most common source of failure

Thanks for the response. This may be a dumb question, but here goes anyway. Where is the reservoir for the master/slave, or is it shared with the brake reservoir? If I had a leak, the fluid would be low, correct?

BTW, forgot to mention in my original post, the clutch works just fine, no slipping or other bad behavior or sounds.

The master cylinder/reservior is located by the back firewall on the left/driver's side near the brake fluid reservior. It is the smaller cylinder. Check the fluid in the reservior, sounds similar to a problem I had, the clutch pedal had about an inch of freeplay. My fluid was low, had to bleed and refill the system.

Well, that fixed it. Filled the reservoir, re-bled the system, everything is good again. Not sure where the leak occured, didn't see anything obviously leaking, so figure I'll just watch it close for a while and see if I keep losing fluid.

Thanks for the help, all!!
