That's relative. You might think it's heavy. I think it's light.

The Maxima puts on weight with each new model. If you're comparing the 5th gen to similar class, contemporary cars, then yes, 3200 pounds is noticeably lighter.

If you have the funds, go with Tokico Illuminas. If you're on a budget, go with Tokico HP's or KYB GR2's.

I'd certainly agree that are cars are lighter than almost every other sedan manufactured since the early 00s, but the way 2slow phrased that, I'm thinking light means <2500 lbs. 3200 lbs is heavy, 2800 lbs is better, but still heavy. A 300 lb bike? That's light. 2200 lb fiberglass race cars powered by magic and aluminum? Those are light.

I certainly don't miss the 200 lbs missing from my Maxima when compared to my previous car--an '01 Taurus with the solid-iron block. The 5.5 gens' aluminum engines, torsion beams, and hot, skinny wheels are the only thing keeping it running with the 300+ HP big dogs that pack serious heat but are seriously hindered by 3800+ lb curb weights. The 2010 Taurus, for instance, with the 3.5L ~265 HP Cyclone engine + AWD = 4200 lbs, which is more weight than many 2WD SUVs!

Even the 2011 Fusion "Sport" with the same Cyclone engine mated to a six-speed from the Mazda6 puts out slightly more power than a 5.5 gen but is still slower due to extra weight.

So, yeah, I'd definitely agree that our cars are lighter than most road-going sedans, but still far, far heavier than truly light cars.
