Eibach/Illumina (for maximum handling) or Progress/Illumina (nicer ride quality) would be my choices.

They both drop the car about 1.5-1.8" in front, and 1.3-1.6" in the rear.

You might wanna give Megan Racing springs a try. They work perfectly with stock struts and give a nice, even drop. 1.6 front and 1.5 rear. I don't know how they compare to Eibachs since I haven't ridden in an Eibach'd Maxima, but my car feels much sharper than stock. The ride is really supple above about 40 MPH too. Below that, it's a little choppy. Overall, they're a steal at $108.

Here's my thread about them: http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...g-springs.html

i'm very close to doing the same combination as you on ma 01 i30t....i just hope that "you get watchu pay for" doesn't get to me...however could you explain what exactly you mean by the ride being "choppy"....n
could yew maybe post another picture of yur drop on a straight surface this time...its kinda hard to see the rear drop cuz of da tree shades...i really would like to see it from a better angle

to answer the OP's question....from $500 yew can take out about $150 for installation....which leaves you with $350....tokico illuminas alone are around $450 a set(front and back) if i'm not wrong....if your shocks are fairly new/in good condition you could skip the shocks/struts and just get lowering springs by itself...i'm bout to try megan racing springs w/ stock shocks/struts also since they're in my budget right now...illuminas are a little pricey cuz they're adjustable...look around for some non-adjustable shocks/struts and see if everything falls under your budget then...good luck

^ Here's another pic

By "choppy", I mean there's some head toss over bumps at lower speeds. It's kind of hard to explain. Basically, the slower you go, the bumpier the ride is.

2000 GLE ..218K Mls.

You are going to need more than just struts and springs...

At 218K you are probably going find to other worn out parts (strut mounts, bearing, bellows etc). My point is you may as well replace the "wear" items while you have it apart and include them in shopping list.

I just did my struts / springs at 100K and replaced: inner/out tie rod ends, sway bar end links, control arms, ball joints, and everything attached to the strut.

How do you like the results?!

Rochester just finished his suspension refreshing, and says it's positively awesome!

let us know!

I could kick myself for not doing this sooner. The drop is not as low as some, but that is fine with me. The PA roads are awful and I have to deal with winter driving in snow.

With the H&Rs, Illuminas and new parts the car handles great. No more bumps, clunks, side steps. I am still trying different settings for the struts, 3/3 feels pretty good.

Save up another $300...be patient...

And buy coilovers. Especially at 218,000 miles.

Why? Because if you're planning on doing struts and springs, you can't overlook replacing all the other worn parts (such as strut mounts) on the suspension during install to keep it from making noise.

I always break it down this way:

Springs: $200
Struts: $300-500
Strut Mounts: $50/side x 4 = $200

All-in-all, to install springs and struts right, it's going to run nearly $700-$800.

Coilovers cost ~$850 for a basic street package. That comes with everything. And you won't need to buy strut mounts.

And the ride is much more comfortable on coilovers, too. Trust me.
