k-sport coilover install
k-sport coilover install
Does anyone know of a how to or writeup on installation of the k-sport coilovers on a 5th gen? I think I can do it without a problem, but it might be nice to have a guide...... thanks!

Same concept. Just for struts/springs instead of coilovers.
Did your coilovers not come with a building guide?

no, they just came with a small book on how to adjust ride height. I bought them brand new from another orger. The fronts were already assembled and the rears were assembled but not tightened.
no, he didn't inlclude the rear mounts. Guess I'll have to take my rears to work and get the mount off. I don't trust those spring compressors...... I think I can handle this, i've done lowering springs before just not coilovers

If you're worried about compressing the springs, rear top mounts can be had for about $40-50 a piece from Advance, Pep Boys, etc. At least that was the price a little over a year go. And that might actually be the way to go depending on how worn yours are...
Are you lowered on springs right now? Or is the Max stock height?

nope, stock height.... i've done lowering springs on a few of my friends's cars. I might go that route and just buy some new mounts, i'm waiting on my max to get out of the body shop anyways
Honestly, compressing the springs on the Max isn't that difficult. They're relatively soft springs. I did my fronts in about 4 hours (first time using a spring compressor
) and the rears in about an hour and a half the next day.
What worries you? If you compress the springs slowly and evenly, there shouldn't be any issues. You should've seen me the first time I took the top mount off of a compressed spring.
I had it in the middle of my backyard, wrapped in a towel, and shoved in a garbage can just incase it blew apart. The bolts just fell into my hand, though.

I've done it before, it just makes me really nervous... I work at a GM dealership, and will probably just take them in there if they look OK. They have those fancy compressors that mount on the wall
The only thing that made me nervous about compressing my springs was watching one of my buddies on one of those very machines at the shop I work near.
It was something along the lines of...
Compressing...compressing...
...
BOOM
Two inches into the insulation on the other side of his shop.
I'm glad nobody caught it in the side of the head.
