2003 Maxima (good or bad)?

Hey all, looking to buy a Maxima again to come back here! Have a few question to ask. I found a 02 Maxima in my area which has 52,000 miles and the asking price is $8000 which I'm sure will be lower a little more. Car is fully loaded with leather and Bose and all else. I'm looking into buying it depending on how it is after I see it this Sunday.

Btw, here's the listing so ya'll can look at it! Any feedback is welcome! Thanks!

so does it have tiptronic? or you manually have to shift from 1, 2, 3, D like all the other cars?

also your post says 52k and his craiglist ad says 55k

but thats a killer deal if theres nothing wrong with the car, gl with the purchase if you decide to get it!

Yea, I called and she confirmed it at 52k miles. Just rounded at 55k miles. The parents of the seller used to drive it and they unfortunately died so she's selling it now. Sad but yea as far Se said no problems on car, and from the pics on craigslist it looks damn clean. Thinking of along it even at 7.5k if all is good with car.

Theres no such thing as tiptronic on these cars. It's either a legit 6 speed or a 4 speed auto.

Good deal with mileage that low if the car checks out. The "manual" shifting option is just that the automatic has a gated shifter.

There is no option though. It's a gated shifter instead of a straight row. There is no section for the "+" or "-" type shifting.

Based solely on what you said here and the info/pics in the listing: buy it. Even if you have to dish out $8k, it's still a good deal.

Then delete this thread when you make your decision, so that the vein on Sooner's forehead stops throbbing.

I'm not saying it is an option but giving the reason the seller might think it is. She apparently isn't the original owner and probably isn't aware all automatic Maximas have gated shifters.

I agree with several of the other posters here. Assuming the car is in excellent condition, it is worth the asking price of $8k.

any auto "can" be manually shifted...but this tranny is built for you to PICK a different gear (lower gear for snow, etc)...not manually shift it as you drive (like newer manumatics)

Just curious guys, to get your honest opinion... Right now I got a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5s. I was thinking if this trade would be worth it, selling my 05 altima for a 2002 Maxima, my altima does have 93k miles on it right now so I'd pretty much be going back 3 years but also gaining 40k less miles by buying the maxima. But yea just needed to get some feedback on this before I make it final on the sale. And here's some bad pics of my car, just posted it so you guys can see it!

Thanks All!

This question is more difficult to answer than "is the 2002 a good deal".
I don't have any personal experience with an 05 Altima. The V6 engine would be the biggest advantage for the Maxima over the Altima in my mind except in fuel economy. Overall room / usability of the two vehicles is close to an even comparison. The 05 Altima may actually have more room than the 02 Maxima. Hopefully some other members will have some direct experience with both vehicles. Good luck.
