Starter Issues

So.. My starter died last night..I went ahead and replaced it this morning with a reman starter from o'reilly. Now, it will start but I have to crank it twice. The first one, I can just hear the starter spinning. Then on the second one it will engage and start the engine. Before I remove it and take it back, I wanted to make sure the starter is the issue.

possible bad grounding? I had similar issue couple months back, but in my case my stock starter was just gone even after being rebuilt, then I put in new starter from autozone and it still works with no grounding enhancement.
on a side note, if you return o'reilly's starter, then get one from advance auto with their amazing coupons,, could prob. save around 40 bucks.

Also note that it would not be surprising if you got a bad starter from the store. I always have them test it on their test stand before I walk out the door.

Also, another reason to recommend advance auto rather than oreilly and autozone is their starter testing unit. In my experience, I went to autozone and oreilly (they use similar testing machine, digital - tests only pass and fail), both passsed my starter test. But then, I could tell by the sound it just wasnt running on faster RPM's, so I went to advance auto and they have this analog meter showing exact rpm of starter crank and it was definately low.

btw try this coupon code for 40 off 100, works on everything except diy oil stuff.
code - LC123

If you're going to Advance, just Google for Advance Auto coupons. I've been working on my 2001 I30 and have gotten lots of deals such as 20% off, $35 off $85, $40 off $100, etc; the deals keep changing so just find the best one for you and buy. You'll probably have to order online and pickup in the store to get the deal, in my experience they didn't have any coupons you could print.

Good luck in diagnosing your problem...
