Photo: Pilot Sport A/S Tread

Just in case anybody was wondering. Thanks to all the dust on the floor of my garage, there is a nice outline of the tread.

Nope, I have not. I took a look at the Pilot Sport (not the A/S). That thing is as close to being a slick as it gets. I think I'd probably just slide down hills out here in Seattle, however.

The A/S sports do come in a 225/50/17 size that will fit our 17 inch OEM wheels. I giving them strong consideration when the time comes to change tires.

I am getting a set of the A/S tomorrow

on my factory 17" wheels at a local Merchant's tire store . I made sure they had a Hunter 9700 tire balancer. Has anybody had any experience with one?

Will the Pilot Sport A/S tires work in the snow? I am debating whether to get a set of snow tires but if these will work OK, then I will get these instead of dedicated snow tires which I can only use for a few months.

Check out www.tirerack.com

I checked and they have a very good snow traction...they also compared them to some othe tires and the got the best rating.

Just got the Pilot A/S's installed tonight - 225-50's. I too had to wait because I was being told 4-8 weeks! When I went to Tire Racks web site they said they would be available 12/11 so I called them, they said they only had like 5 sets coming in and one was sold already - so I plopped down the credit card and ordred them. They have of course a MUCH more aggressive tread than the RE92's and the tread blocks kinda come down the side just over the shoulder, looks nice. I drove home in the rain and didn't get a chance to really give them a try, the guy told me to take it easy on them for the first 50 miles or so until the soap stuff they use to set the beads evaporated. He said it's possible to turn the wheel inside the tire and mess up the balance. I going to be on the road for about 250 miles tomorrow and will let you guys know how they are. Though can't complain too much about the RE92'S - I DID get 67,000 out of them.

I want to buy these tires. My local Sears will match the TireRack price of $202 and need only 2 days to get them in. However in there estimate, they want $20 for insurance per tire and also an alignment. I am sure I can waive the insurance, but I am not if I should. Is the alignment routine when changing tires? My thread wear pattern on my RE92's is even so I don't think I need an alignment. What do you think? Alignment plus insurance or waive them?
Thanks

I say go with the alignment, the extra money is worth it. After all, you ARE spending over $800 for a set of tires - what's an extra $40 or $50? You may not need it but why chance it?
As for the Insurance....tough call. At $20 per tire your looking at $80 - not even half the price of 1 new tire. Myself, I didn't get the insurance. I drove 67,000 on the RE92's without incident and feel "Lucky" If your a gamblin' man - don't get it.

See if you can get a credit for the alignment at a later point in time...that's a better deal. Then, when you upgrade your struts and springs, you can use the alignment "coupon" to get the much needed alignment.
