Power Steering Fluid???

What kind should I use on my 00 Max? I'm having to replace my high pressure hose, and need to get some fluid. What kind is good while not spending a ton of money?

Any Dexron III/Mercon type of Automatic Transmission Fluid will do.

I bought AMSOIL full synth, but that's just me.

You change this stuff every, what - 60k miles?
Why not make it last - and buy the good stuff.

DOT 3 is the type of fluid recommended for Brake and Clutch, according to the Owner's Manual, not for Power Steering.

Step 1 is to NOT post this question in a thread regarding ps fluid.

Sorry to revive this old thread but my question fits right in: I need to replace my PS fluid; it has never been replaced and the car has 133K miles. For simplicity, I would prefer to use the AT fluid in my PS as well. So, my first question is: Do I have to be extra careful to fully drain the old fluid before pouring in the ATF, so that the two don't mix?

My 2nd question is: If I decide to stick with the original fluid type, what fluid do I actually buy? The manual says "Genuine Nissan PSFII or equivalent"; what do I look for at Autozone/O'Reileys ?

Dex merc III is equivalent.
Just use a cheap spray bottle and get all the old fluid out you can, then repeat every 100 miles give or take, until it's all cycled out.

Turn the wheel lock to lock with cooler hose disconnected.
It won't spray out but it'll pump out decently fast.

OK, by "cooler hose" you refer to the thin hose between the cooler and the PS reservoir, I assume. Whether I disconnect it at the reservoir or elsewhere, all the new fluid will run out from the reservoir .... somehow this does not make sense to me. What am I missing?
