2001 M/T Speedometer issue

OK, my speedo is only going as high as 40mph, even when I'm running 90 on the interstate. It looks like when I am running <=80, it seems to be showing about half the speed, i.e. if I am running 60 my speedo shows 30. I went to pull the vehicle speed sensor, and apparently I have a plug type VSS, which looks like it doesn't do anything in the first place.

My only thoughts are that I had the shop replace a wheel bearing on my front driver side, and the mechanic said my ABS sensor was busted so he drilled out the bolt for me. Since then, the speedo has been iffy. Any ideas?

I'd take it back to the mechanic...

Well I gave him a call and we both agreed that there shouldn't have been anything he did that involved the speedo unless the ABS sensor is somehow tied to the speedo.

I've got an ABS light too. I didn't figure the computer would pull vehicle speed from the ABS speed sensor. I figured that was just for the ABS system. Maybe I figured wrong. I'm replacing it today whatever the case may be.
