GL-5 in my 6MT

GL-5 in my 6MT
I recently pulled my motor to do some work then put everything back together and went to buy all the fluids to fill them back up. I was looking for GL-4 everywhere and NOBODY had it so I just got GL-5 now I'm reading that it's bad for our trannys so my question is will I be ok to drive with GL-5 for 3-4 days until I can get some red line MT-90?

Is the specific product called MTG?
I am considering trying it.
I have access to a Pennzoil synthetic GL-4 fluid but it's just as expensive as Amsoil, so I figured I'd hold off.
I am currently running MT-90 but have yet to try anything else and I am looking for other options. I plan on keeping the MT-90 just incase.

it all depends on who makes the gl-5. There are a few backward compatible ones. I think royal purple is ok and a few others like Motul. As long as they don't use a lot of sulfur. Mobil 1 gl-5 synthetic is a no no for sure.

I had a 3rd gear crunch in my old open diff. I drained and filled with this and it cured about 90% of it. Stuff works great!!

Pretty sure I started-off with the non-gl-4 Amosil lube, whatever it was back then.
Switched to the Amosil Gl-4 when they finally released it, and although i couldn't PERCEIVE much of a difference, I sure FELT better about it.
Good stuff that AMSOIL. Good shifting consistently summer and winter....minus the crunch, which has been there FOREVER!
I didn't FLUSH mine - only drained it.
I challenge anyone to provide some EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE that supports a conclusion that not flushing the gl-5 will be detrimental in the long-run.

Back when I had my 3rd gen, I ran Mobil 1 GL5 in it for at least 60k miles. I never had even so much as a slight shifting problem. I miss how smooth that tranny was compared to the 6 speed. Of course back then I didn't know that GL5 "ate" brass synchros either. Even though I got lucky and got away with it, I'd definitely recommend going with GL4. There's no reason not too.

If you think the Red Line's expensive you don't want to know how much a new tranny will cost! Seriously you're talking about what..$30 maybe in oil? I personally wouldn't risk it for that much. Get it changed as soon as you can and never worry about it again.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear, I already did drain the GL-5 and put in Red Line MT-90 GL-4 last night after I found out how bad GL-5 is on our trannys but it was mentioned in one of the previous posts above that I should run the MT-90 for 2 days then drain it and add more so I'm asking Is that really necessary?

There is little residual fluid in an MT gearbox after a drain, especially if you tilt the car towards the direction of the drain plug.

its not that hard to change it out yourself..... just unplug the sensor on the buttom of the tranny and let it drain into a pan the use a funnel and dump 5 quarts in there. if you had taken your time, your initial $60 in oil woulda done, but now you have to spend $180 instead. paitence pays

Also, sensor?

The fluid change couldn't be easier on the 6MT, just a drain plug, I think its 1/2" drive square, and same as the fill plug.

Oh yeah I remember now... I remember having to buy it because I'd never needed it before for anything else. Something else on one of my cars is a 1/2" drive square, which is really convenient.

Imagine that!

I looked at sites selling Amsoil gear lube as well as Motul and Redline.
I could not tell if any were GL-5 or GL-4. Looks like the Amsoil works in Gl-5 applications, so is that unacceptable in the 6mt?
