Looks pretty good. Find an air-brush guy who does work on dealership's used cars, you can have all those rock chips air-brushed for about 50 bucks, it makes a huge difference in about 15 minutes of work.

I covered the hood with a bed sheet and masked off the surrounding areas of the grill with some masking tape and newspaper

I always wanted to do that to my 5th gen but I would have kept the emblem the way it was but since you did that you should get rid of all that other chrome **** too. Good job though came about nice

Did mine a few weeks ago too , cant remember what I used but it was some Wal-mart grade stuff....I was watching south park and got bored so I decided to paint it

popped it out
sanded it
popped out the emblem

painted.

mind you the bolt that's right infront of the hood latch can be a little annoying to get if you're taking the whole thing out like I did

That's OEM weatherstripping. Not every car came with it. There's a TSB about hood shaking that this simple strip of rubber addresses.

Looks good, doesn't it? Very finished.

See, you're quoting me, but you're actually addressing the OP.

Otherwise... yes, black rubber is a standard color.

No, it's real. Go buy the weather strip kit from your local Nissan parts department. It's like $18 USD, or thereabouts.

BTW, I'm with you guys... that Merlot 5.0 gen looks fantastic. Really, really good.

Imma paint my grille black soon... probably Krylon Fusion for plastic with a Duplicolor CC like the OP did. But I like the burger left shiny I'm not a fan of too much chrome on a vehicle, but in this case, the emblem looks good IMHO. (I have a 5.5 gen though, so the burger is a little bigger, etc. Maybe that's why I like it so much, I don't know...)

I painted my 5.5 grill gloss black a few weeks ago using the same paint w/out the clear, and left the chrome burger. On my white car I really like the way it turned out. I only painted the silver though, b/c I wanted the contrast of the gloss black and the flat black plastic. I spent hours taping over all the black plastic... just need to upload some pics.

Yeah, let's see some pics on this thread when you get 'em. I've been debating whether or not to paint the whole grille gloss black, or just paint the front silver like you did. I'd like to see how yours turned out. Try to get some pics that show the transition from gloss black to the OEM black.

THAT'S where that grille is!! I've always wondered what people did to get that OEM grille look all smoothed out without the burger.

Yes and no. This JDM grille can be purchased online. However, Prophecy and Squirrel (Sp?) here on the Org have used their body-shop skills to delete the burger from their OEM grille. They did a crazy good job of it, and it's an awesome look, but unrealistic for the rest of us. If you consider how many hours are involved, imagine paying that to a body shop, and still no guarantee it would turn out to your satisfaction.

I have to say, I'm becoming increasingly jealous looking at this work.

That's why I'm interested in this JDM Grille; (which also comes in carbon fiber, btw.)

Imagine this JDM grill painted satin black, with gun-metal black chrome across the face of the two bars.

Thanks ...Like Rochester said, its weatherstripping, came with the new headlights after my front end collision. They both started peeling off after just a couple months so I had to glue them back on.

Are you talking about the color of my Maxima? its Merlot and yes, its a standard color
