Lost 4mpg after cleaning TB

Hello,

About two weeks ago, I wanted to give my car a little tune up by replacing the spark plugs (which I didn't get a chance to do since I noticed oil in one of the spark plug tubes, so I need to replace the rear valve cover before I can do the plugs).

Since I had to remove the intake manifold, I decided to clean the Throttle Body with CRC TB cleaner. I disassembled the TB from the intake manifold and sprayed both sides, and used a clean rag to remove most of the carbon buildup.

I put everything back together and forgot to do the Idle Relearn procedure. I drove about 10 miles like this (with idle @ +/- 1200rpm). CEL came on. The same day, I did the relearn procedure. Idle went back down to normal and the CEL came off after about 40 miles of driving.

I drove my car for about 600 miles since I did cleaned the TB, and noticed that I lost about 4mpg. My car runs just as good as it did before, no power loss, but it just soaks up gas now. I used to be able to get about 25/26mpg mixed driving, but I now only get about 21/22, without changing my driving habits.

I think I may have messed up my TB? I used my fingers to open the TB while spraying it, can it damage the TB? What else could cause my gas mileage to go down like this?

03 Max - 6spd - 100,000 miles

Thanks!

They're a lot of threads saying not to touch and not to clean the TB. I went back to stock intake this morning and my TB is filthy, but I don't want to mess with cleaning it and screwing something up. I'll try to find some threads.

The weird thing is that I haven't lost power, the idle is normal, no CEL, just bad gas mileage (verified at the pump). In the thread you sent me, it looks like the idle doesn't go back to normal after the relearn procedure...

I don't have any CEL. I did have it for a day because I didn't know about the relearn procedure. Once I did the relearn procedure, the CEL went away.

I've been driving the car for 2 weeks and 600+ miles and no CEL, so I think I should be OK.

Thanks for the tip though.

I was wondering, if I remove the duct before the TB, leave the TB plugged in, and put the ignition key in the ON position (without turning on the engine), will the TB open and close as I press on the gas pedal?

I was thinking about doing this to see if my TB would open completely when the gas pedal is all the way down...
