code reset?
code reset?
ok..i want to reset an engie code i got the other day. how long do you have to remove the positive side of the battery to reset it. i did it for about a minute, but the code still appeared.
the codes i got thru AutoZone was:
~Intake valve timing (IVT) control circut failure-bank 2
the printout from autozone said.
probable cause:
1- ivt control solenoid open or shorted
2- cam/crank sensors out of phase
3- dirt build up at control valve

Thanks for the post LongIslandMax ... hot damn it worked, well it took my at least 5-6 tries to be honest. I was sure that my SES codes was false so I kept trying the reset wow the steps and timing is very critical to be done correctly. I kept getting messed up when it gets to count the 4 groupings of 10 flashes and pauses, don't do 3 groupings or 5 & 6 it is very critical to follow the steps as they are written and if you truely have no engine codes the light will go out as stated.
the 21 (I assume you mean P0021) p0021 = P0021 Intake Valve Timing Control which can be cause by oil sludge getting up into the engine ... have you checked your engine oil level if it is low you could have pushed sludge up into the narrow passage ways, trust I have done this one, which took 3 oil changes and 2 seafoam treatments in the oil crank case to get cleaned up ( I drove 500km between oil changes so they were fairly frequent.
code P0455. try to tightened the gas cap and clear the code if it returns it could be a damaged seal try to replace the gas cap, I have also read it could be defective Vent Control Valve.
Sorry to hear the code reset didn't work for you but it sounds like you still have some issues to resolve.

oil level was good...is this a sensor i can get to and clean?
or do i just change the oil?
i tightened the gas cap, seal looked ok. i have to assume when my wife took the car she didn't tighten it enough....

Try the code reset again, if you had to tighten the gas cap you may find both codes can be be reset as they could be related to each other. As for cleaning I might just suggest that when you get your next oil change done have an engine flush run through the engine to help break down any possible sludge, and then the oil change just let it clean its self naturally.
i got the light to reset..both codes went away. then a week later( a few days ago...) i started the car in the morning and got a rapping sound from the top of the motor ...drivers side. sounds like a lifter. whats this? i read some links about this (VTC?) issues? car has 104k on it. the idle also stumbles when the rapping starts...althought the rapping is not consistant..it comes and goes.
this is crazy. i have had more issues in the last two months with this 02 than i ever had with my 97 maxima se. i think i am missing THAT car more and more....
