FWIW, I was talking to a Nissan dealer, and he told me about 1% of the Maximas produced between 2002 and 2003 were 6MTs.
So take that as you may...I'd say yeah, it's a pretty unusual car when compared to the number of automatics available.

Do you know if it's HLSD? it's a non-te for sure, i got my 03 TE with hlsd for around cheaper than that. clean title and only 71k miles
my exterior isn't as clean, but it's not horrible, however, car looks pretty darn clean

It's possible. Dealers like to talk.
I've also found out dealers sometimes don't know ish about what they're talking about.
It's pretty bad when you go into the Nissan dealership and can tell the dealer/service department more about your car than they can.

I think it's a little expensive. I got my '03 TE last year in mint condition with 77K miles for $8.5K, but it was not from a dealership so that explains the difference...
Clean car though, it looks like the headlights are getting foggy...

A 6-speed 5.5 gen with those options isn't the most common car around, but it isn't exactly a rare find. I only came across one 6-speed while I was car shopping back in June, but that was only over the two-week period after I decided I was dead-set on getting a 5th gen. I just checked about a week ago and it's still for sale, the dealer is asking a pretty ridiculous price for it, I believe $10k with 108k miles and pretty bare-bones as far as options go.
However, that car looks to be in very nice shape. That being said, I would say that a 6-speed 5.5 gen with those options AND in good condition like that is a somewhat rare find. If you can work the price down then go for it. If they won't budge, I'd walk away. Uncommon as it may be, values still apply. $9k is too much for that car. Don't hesitate to keep looking if it doesn't work out, these cars are only 8 years old so there's plenty of them still out there.
Just another reminder for me of the differences between Long Island and where I live now in Central PA. If I still lived on Long Island I'm sure I'd be seeing cars identical to mine dozens of times a day. Here I'm pretty sure I'm the only 5.5 gen within 20 miles of my town

Yeah, the 5.5 gens are rare enough here that I still get excited when I see another one.
From reading on the death of manual transmissions, it seems that most manufacturers build 10% of their cars with manuals. The article was discussing Hyundai's practices, but that number seems about right for most other makes. I'd agree that more like 15%-20% of 5.5 gens have a six-speed.
In two months of searching, the only "perfect" Maxima I found* was, um, well, there was only one. Black on black, leather, Meridian Edition, factory nav + Bose, LSD, moonroof, one owner with 92K miles... I only saw one in two months.
*In a five-hour driving radius.
Edit: I would say that Maxima for an out-the-door price of $6500 would be a perfectly acceptable arrangement.

I would say in my area 5.5 gen 6mt is rare I drove two and a half hours to buy mine.
Also try to haggle them on the price . I talked the dealer down and bought it for 5200.
So far I love everything about the car but the turning radius

Someone is selling a fully loaded 2002 6spd w/ 91k miles on NYCmaximas for $5K-neg, which supposedly has a clean title. You should check it out: http://nycmaximas.org/showthread.php?t=56770

yea it does have a big turning radius but this seems like a good buy. it even has the carfax report on it and it looks good has been kept up on service... for the people who has the 6spd do y'all have any problems with the transmission or the car in general... this will be my first manual and to be honest i'm not to sure bout having a manual as an everyday driver... even though i always wanted a manual...
@ datsunzcar84.... how many miles did yours have on it when you brought it

I thought I read somewhere that the numbers for 6MT Maxima's were below 5% and even more rare for the Meridian and Titanium packages. I couldn't see anyone paying more than $8k for a fully loaded 5.5 Gen HLSD these days...

OP, it looks like you're been working his way through Maxima models for many, many years. 3rd gen, 4th gen, 5th gen... You should skip right past the 5.5 gen and get a 6.0 gen 6MT HLSD.
Then get yourself a 2010 SV Premium in 5 years.
I don't understand this thread. It would be rare if it only had 2 doors.

When the dealer took it on trade-in, he undoubtedly spent much effort convincing the previous owner that it was worthless and would be really hard to sell, because of that crappy 6MT that nobody wants to buy.
We don't call them "Stealerships" for nothing.

There's a 2003 6MT TE Meridian w/HLSD for sale on Auto Trader right now for $9,200 at only 74,000 miles.
Most 5.5 gen 6MT's are over 100K miles, and between 5 and 7 grand, however.

TE was not available in 2002, only 2003.
Also, if you look really carefully in the picture where you can see the shifter, you can see the HLSD metal style pedals (the gas pedal only)
I would say by this it has HLSD, as it appears stock in all other ways.

Not a super rare car but its pretty decent, if a little over priced. Haggle him down, the more money you don't spend now you will later on mods.
