$330 to install springs?!

I went to this local place to see if they could install my progress springs and the guy reluctantly gave me a price and was kind of making me feel like an idiot for even thinking about switching springs on my "slant eye engineered car" as he put it! He has done some work to my 61 impala in the past and he seemed pretty cool...but after visiting him with the maxima I don't think he will get any more of my business.

I am thinking of just buying a spring compressor and doing this myself. That guy ticked me off....plus he was saying he won't be responsible if it doesn't ride right....so in other words pay me the cash and I might do a good job. I don't have any confidence that he would do any better of a job than I, plus he is not going to warranty his work because he feels it is a mistake to start off with!

Sorry to rant....anyone know of a shop in Kansas City that could do this for me without being an azz about it!?

Its really not that hard to swap springs if you have the spring compressor and another body to help. I am sure there is a how to in the sticky threads. Screw that guy, he might f**K with your car too.

Find some .org people in your area to help you do the install!

Even if you have to drive a few miles and give them a few bux it would be worth it.

It is really not hard..

It is really pretty easy if you are mechanically inclined at all. If you wanted to give it a try I would be willing to answer your questions on the phone. All you need is spring compressors(you can get them for free from autozone on a rental basis), preferably some air tools, some sockets, and a jack. I have installed springs on 3 5th gens, 3 4th gens so if you needs some verbal help I will help all I can. Good luck, and if I were you I would save some money.

Oh also if you don't know anything about cars and how to work on them then spend the money to get it done so you don't end up costing yourself more money in the long run.

Good Luck!

If you do plan on doing it yourself without airtools, then you need a 1/2" breaker bar with sockets, and a Universal Swivel joint for a 3/8" wrench for the rear springs bolts. Other than that just a STRUT SPRING compressor and a FRIEND.

You did not get raped, you live in a big city, do not expect to get deals like people in smaller towns. Don't sweat the samll things, believe me you could have had it done for ten bucks and someone would have had it done for a six pack of Busch.

Thanks for the offer....I might have to take you up on that! I was thinking about selling the damn springs because I cannot justify that amount of money. I do have a air compressor and air tools...I just need to get a spring comp. and some swivel sockets (are the sockets a must?)

If you don't mind could you send me your phone number. My email address is jason@seeplane.com

Thanks!
