I have skipped fourth for the last week, but that's because my AT is shot.

I skip third and 5th alot. I do tend to redline 1st and 2nd ALOT and then go to 4th, or 6th depending on what the speed limit is.

I use all the gears.

2nd is slow for you? 2nd rips in my car, generally breaking traction for most of it. Check your MAF, Coils, Plugs, Timing....

If 2nd isn't pulling well (for the OP), how on earth would 3rd pull?

So most ppl here start in 2nd gear in regular city driving? I usually go through all gears.

On accelerating on a highway, i usually go 1-2-3-6. I usually stay in 6th on highway unless im going less than 40 too.

i think most people are using 1st and 2nd. 3, 4, 5 seem to be most optional based on situation

I will skip 5th from time to time, but no i think skipping 2nd would lug the engine too much = bad.

seriously : how usually do you accelerate ? (not in a race setting) but normal daily driving in city....

I'm new here but I'll chime in. In Normal everyday driving I use all 6 gears. I have skipped 2nd gear once or twice and this is the first car I've ever done that with.

I guess coming from a Neon does that to folks, lol.

I use second more than I use first. I never rev past 2000rpm if I do use first. The only time I use first is if I come to a dead stop.

I can't imagine driving the 5.5 gen 6MT in any more boring a manner.

Somewhere out there is Oldsmobile Intrigue with your name on it.

LOL, make that two Olds Intrigues. That's pretty much how I drive mine as well.
Boring? Yeah, I drive more for mileage than for fun.

In a 35 mph zone I use first and second then skip straight to 4th. In general I pretty much always use 1st/2nd gear, but other gears from there depend on how fast I need to be going. Of course, I'm kind of addicted to listening to it above 3k rpms

I actually paid attention to the RPMs the other day while cruising to work, and I progressively shift at a lower RPM.
1st, ~2750-3000
2nd, ~2500
3rd, ~2300
4th, ~2200
5th, ~2000

6th is the exception that I try to only shift into it after I hit 60mph otherwise it feels too short.

When I open it up, well that's a different story...

Nice ideas , thank you...
What made me ask , is that I used to drive a Toyota supersaloon 1982 (lol) for around 6 years , I used to skip 2nd alot in that car when I had it....And the transmition felt A LOT smoother in that car (I would not exaggerate if I say it had around 500-600K miles on it when I sold it with original engine and tranny , and may be 7th or 8th clutch since new,It was my fathers car before I took it,that wasn't in US)...I'm new to this 5.5 gen 6 spd and I believe it would take sometime to get used to it , however , shifting 1st then 2nd in this car feels boring but what I noticed so far is that shifting at higher RPMs ,i.e. above 2500 (though I don't like to do that all the time) is smoother and more precise in all gears than shifting at lower ones.....
thanks again

That's just normal driving. Interstate driving, or spritited driving is different. Then It's about:

1st: 3K
2nd: 4.5k
3rd:4K
4th:4k
Then Into sixth. I do drive my maxima like I'm supposed to, just gon certain occasions.

LOL

What's funny is, I used to own an Oldsmobile Intrigue. Drove the **** out of that car. Now, in my Max, when it's dry out--which is most of the year in AZ--I usually shift at 3K 1st to 3rd, then let 4th take me to my street driving speed and then shift to 5th for cruising. On the freeway, just add one more gear in each of those sequences.

I always hit 1,2 then skip three(I only use it when I need to downshift or I feel like having loads of fun) hit 4 and depending on the speed limit go to 5 or 6.
And I get wheel spin going from 1-2 and my max is stock. Ive got pretty good street/track tires, yokohama sdrive, also on the cheaper side.
I also think that 2nd gear has to be the most fun IMO.

Moncef has a tuned 5MT. Raised rev limit, maybe? Either way... 5 gears, not 6.

My 2nd gear goes to around 65mph with a 6-speed and 7100 rev limiter if I actually rev it out that far. Moncef has a 5mt with a slightly longer 2nd gear and 7200ish rev limiter, so I could see him getting to 70. Whether it's making any power above 6500 with those stock 3.0 cams, well....

Hmm. Thinking about it, when I still had my stock transmission, If was anywhere around 55 to 60 MPH, my car can take me downshifting to second, however brief, whenever I was really serious about getting a speed advantage (merge, brief fun, whatever). I never paid attention to the actual speeds I'd reach, because in those instances, I shift by sound and always pay attention ahead.

I guess I've just been driving with my 4.10 final for some time now. I often forget about it as a "mod" even, when people have asked.
