So I think my tps is bad. But I need to know how to test it. Which wire do I hook my volt meter up to ? There's two pugs??? What reading should I get at closed throttle and wot?

you have to use a multimeter set to Ohms and connect the MM leads to the sensor and you have to move the sensor slowly and watch the resistance value change.

the reason why you have to do a slow sweep is because you are looking for a break in resistance.

if you hve the MM connected and you do a slow sweep of the sensor and the readout doesn't change, then your sensor is ok

if you see the resistance move then go out, your sensor is bad

Trust me!!! I have!!! The tps on the 00 gen max (maybe other gens to) is a lot different. Has someone on here specifically tested one for the 5th gens?? Which connectors did you test

Search for a link on this website for an online copy of the FSM for a '00, or '00.5 or a '01 Maxima. These are (including your '00) Gen. 5 Maxis. The checks for the TPS are in section EC. What makes you think that your TPS is the problem? Unless it's been flooded by TB cleaner or the like these things are kinda bullet proof. It is simply a potentiometer and two switches. But have you even loosened or disturbed the attach screws? The basic adjustment/setup of the TPS per the FSM is critical.

page ec-188 has internal diagram of the sensor, should be easy enough to understand. You use MM to check uniformity of resistance change over the range: there should not be 'flat' spots or sudden breaks in resistance, just smooth linear change. The other connector are 2 internal switches used to let ECU know when the throttle is completely open or closed. Using MM you can easily check that as well.

Have no idea ...

I'm pretty sure though that if your TPS has a problem MM should be able to reveal that. If it won't then it's something else: MM test is more sensitive to TPS problems than ECU.
