Curious as to what you have on your 4th gen? I cant comment on these other exhausts. I've only had (100% good) experience with cattmans stuff.

Nobody is "against" Catts. It's pretty much a given that he makes the best exhaust parts for the Maxima.

Id love to hear a full Cattman in person. Everyone swears by his products. If they werent so pricey, I'd be all Cattman.

I've heard an entire cattman setup in person. It consisted of headers>fastcat>2.5" resonated catback. All on a 5.5 with the SRI intake with velocity stack they used to sell and a set of arrons spacers. This was hands down, the best sound I've ever heard from any maxima in my life. No rasp what so ever. And not loud at all. Only way to describe it is that it had a nicely "tuned" sound to it. Perfect in my book.

But thats not what this thread is about.

Megan, i was leaning towards going with it myself. seems to be the best bang for buck in performance terms. Also yes catmann is the best but also the most expensive. Let me know what you decide to do with the max...very curious what you decide on the exhaust.

Its probably cuz the JIC Exhaust System is $892 and some change plus shipping Well that a price that i found online and it said Low Price Guarantee!
For that price a smart person would just get the cattman but
Like my dad says their a fish for every hook and i know jic snags a few once in a while

Where are you finding this eBay catback piping? Do you mean buying a cheap catback system and scrapping the rear section?

If not a Cattman 3", Megan. No other choice on that list compares.

I would still recommend saving up for the Cattman 3". Proven gains of 10-15whp on an untuned bolton 3.5 vs a 2.5" exhaust are hard to say no to, considering how much we spend for N/A power on these cars.

If you do decide to do it that way, sell the new muffler to MaxJammin. He's looking for one.

Another here for the Cattman 3". I almost cheaped out when I got my exhaust, but every time I drive my car I'm glad I went with Cattman. I would have regretted anything else.

Getting some good numbers on the Megan Racing OE-RS i thought the HKS Exhaust Sport Rear Section with the ebay catt back piping would have done a lot better
It's one pretty muffler it's the pricing that runs me off tho for just a rear section

It almost sounds like you've made up your mind and just wanted people to confirm it. Sorry we didn't confirm it

There are tons of megan videos on youtube. I am guessing we're talking about a DEK here. If it's an unequal length Y-pipe, it's going to sound like most 4th gens that have a warpspeed or similar Y-pipe and the megan catback. If it's an equal length Y-pipe (not sure they're even made without a header/Y-pipe combo), it's going to sound more like the cattman or OBX (equal length) setup. Also, all in all the sound is not much different than the cattman 2.5"

I glossed through the videos on youtube, many of the same setups sound so different (and the quality is horrible/can't tell), but I've heard horror stories about the Megan once you throw a y-pipe on there.

I'll be putting a Cattman y-pipe on but the rest of my exhaust is rusted through, so I was wondering to go oem (rust-risk) or Megan (stainless steel).

Lol, I should've mentioned I've been doing some SERIOUS searching. Was even thinking grabbing a Megan and keeping the b-pipe but eh...

ps(some folks said non-oem b-pipe 'reduces' low-end, others say it 'increases' low-end torque. That's the problem w/ my searching, too much info starts crashing into my head. I may just stay oem for familiarity)

However, you seem to imply megan-oe is good tho so that's def a plus one, and I appreciate it.

The OEM B-pipe has a pretty nasty restriction where they crushed it to weld on a hangar. Some noobs here will tell you that an exhaust needs "back pressure," so restrictions like this will increase lowend power, but it's very much incorrect. That doesn't mean bigger piping is always better as you want to maintain velocity for scavenging, but keeping a crimped pipe for the sweet power-increasing restriction is not going to help.

That holds true (back-pressure myth ftl lol), I've seen some folks on here have had custom b-pipes made (or built themselves). Should I go that route then? (perhaps staying in the 2.25 in range)

2.5" is perfectly fine, definitely better than 2.25" on a 3L engine. Having one custom made with SS and mandrel bends would probably cost 3-4x more than just buying an ebay SS/mandrel 2.5" cat-back, and scavenging the B-pipe. I'd recommend a Tsudo one if you get it from ebay.
