I've done some moderate web browsing looking for some aftermarket hoods. The stock hood is just too plain. I am not looking for anything crazy like luvers or "pontiac-esc" hood scoops but I wish the stock hood was more aggressive.

Something like the IS-F's raised hood but not as extreme, see here , would really bring some of the sleek yet brutal styling that I love. I understand that style is subjective- but good taste isn't

The question is does anyone know of a decent aftermarket hood design(again I am not into scoops, vents, etc)? If not, a vendor should really make one- this simple mod could really make our Max's a little more aggressive while retaining a non-ricey sensibility. All the dots are there- just need someone to draw the lines.

Probably has something to do with the fact that it's a Maxima.

 

I like it as well. Maybe we can just paint the rear hood to mimic this photo shop. optical illusion.

 

Personally, I think something like the raised center on the IS300, or the 07 350z would look good if executed properly...anything beyond that would be too much.






I still miss my little IS from time to time...

 

If our hoods were not so blah, it would make our fugly OEM grill and rear end look even worse...

I think removing the two creases would be a good start.

 

If there's a bulge in the hood, there should be a reason for it.

Yeah... I purchased a "4 door sports car" Maxima not a Buick. At this point, when the car was made, the Maxima was the flagship vehicle in America.

I want a little performance looks with my civil four door- a perfect example is a lip kit(it provides minimal downforce- people buy it for the looks). If I wanted straight performance, I'd be on an F-Body forum right now.

All in all, I see soooo many complaints about the grill and the tail lights when the biggest design flaw on the car is the hood.

You've got the right idea.

 

The more I think about it, I actually really like the concept of a bulge similar to those on the Z on the hood of the Maxima. Maybe not quite as aggressive as Z's, though. A little more subtle and clean would probably look decent.

But then again, when it comes down to how much it would cost to make a custom hood, would I be better going custom, or just getting a CF hood and calling it a day?

 

That design looks great not to over the top like wtf just right, and feeling the 350z UIM, my friend was telling me to bust a 350 z engine since his shop put a Skyline motor in a 04 or 05 Maxima from The NYC AREA I was like too much cash...

The car isn't aggressive enough to pull off a IS-F or newer Z33 hood. Those cars are sportier to say the least and the Z has a manifold to justify it (not sure about the IS).

 

I don't dislike our hoods, per say, but I do agree with OP in that the aftermarket hoods available for our cars are...lacking. To say the least.

Every hood out there, aside from OEM or OEM-style, is pretty rice-tastic IMO.

 

So here's the plan, lets put some object under the hood and slam it down to create this bulge

 

Maximas can't pull off that raised hood look without a lip kit, the car just isn't aggressive enough..

People seem to forget that these are family sedans, not sports cars.

How it really works is.......

300whp+ in a Maxima = Who gives a **** about the hood?

 

Although, I would benefit from a vented hood.

I think you're right, though. Maybe with a Stillen lip kit or something, the raised hood would look good. I don't know about a fully stock exterior.

The new Altima has a raised hood, too. Jussayin', 'cause the CVT is anything but sporty.

I'm liking the idea of a subtle hood design as well. Everything I've seen on the market is really aggressive looking. I was actually thinking of modding my hood for an offset naca duct similar to the R34 Skyline hood, which I think is on the Nismo hoods. Something that looks clean and to help feed fresh air to the air intake.

 

Everyone in this thread wants this.

 

An aluminum hood would be a good idea for those that want something lighter without going to a carbon or fiberglass hood...

I guess that would be the 10 + Altima hood, the hood hump adds some flair to it.

 

I like the photo shopped hood alot. I wouldn't go as far as saying its the worse of the flaws cosmetically.
