Engine swap

Hypothetically what would I need to remove to get an 00 engine to run out of the vehicle? I am guessing a lot of this engine is computer controlled and was wondering what else has to go with the actual engine assembly if I were to transplant it onto another non maxima chassis (1972 triumph to be exact). I know I would have to do some major modifications for the trans and rear of the truimph, but for now let's focus on the engine. What is the minimum I would need to get the engine to run?

You would need:

Motor (Complete)
ECM w/ full harness
Trans

Why in the name of ..... would you want to do such a thing?

You'd need the wiring harness and a way to integrate it into the Triumph's electrical system along with the ECU. You'd be much better off using a RWD version of the VQ35 since it will position the engine and transmission properly in the body. Be too expensive and difficult to try and set up a FWD engine for use in a RWD car. Unless of course, you want to spend even more money and try to convert it to FWD.

+1 what they said.

You may wanna look for a light weight RWD set up to make this easier and more cost effective.

I would keep it as RWD with something custom to mount a differnt trans (yet unknown) to the engine.

Why? Why not? If I come across a car that was wrecked in the rear, I need the front pieces to put the wife's 00 back together and I would then have a decent engine to play with. I think I have another triumph chassis I can get to build it on and eventually move the body on when the rolling chassis is complete.

Keep it as a RWD? In your initial post, you stated you are getting an engine out of a 00. Is that a 00 Maxima? If it is, then the VG30 is set-up for FWD displacement. You're better off grabbing a motor from a Z/G if you're set on that type of swap. Something custom to mount on a different trans? Wow! Right freaking on...

GL with all that noob.

EDIT:

Go with a LSx swap instead.

Almost! When I had my black/cleared 5.5 headlights I sure as hell was
But actually my car will look similar to yours to the average person...

-Similar turbo setup
-FMIC
-Seats
-Steering wheel? I don't remember if you had/have a custom one...
-Different headlights

EDIT:
I am buying the same grille you have

Wow. Thanks for the warm welcome.

So lets get back to the original question...hypothetically, if I had a 00 maxima engine and ecm, turned it 90 degrees so the flywheel was facing the rear of the car, and somehow mated a straight gearbox to it with a bell housing and clutch, the engine will self destruct?!?! Are there any conversions to get rid of all the computer crap?

EDIT: I do have a 454 in my shop but I need something small and light, and if I buy a full max parts car, I'll already have an engine.

Although, I do agree with the others that if you are going to swap a VQ into this RWD chassis, it would be more smart to start with a RWD variation of a VQ35. It still is possible to swap a FWD VQ into a RWD platform. (and it has been done more than once) You can use the 6 speed 350z transmission. Obviously, custom work for the flywheel has to be done, but your putting a motor in a car it was never meant to rest in. So custom machine work shouldnt be a problem.

IMO tho, if you really want a VQ30 in there, I'd suggest you locate a VQ30DE-T and transmission from overseas. Reason I suggest this is that for one, its a RWD engine. Second, the ECU is alot less complex than that of the VQ35 equiped cars which may help get the car running less complicated. And on top of all that, in stock trim it puts out the same power as the VQ35 and can put out alot more than 350hp with simple exhaust work and tunning which is more than enough to play hide and go seek with traction in that chassis.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do with that project.

warm welcome. lol. yea its funny isnt it.
but yea what these guys said engine full accessories full harness ecu. and immobilizer stuff..(so your car can start) as for the trans try using a VG off the 300zx's. not a direct bolt on but far from impossible.
or you could look for a busted 350z and take everything from there.
Copart.com has many...you just need to know someone who can buy from here.

I really like the what youre trying to do. but id go with a 300zx or a 350z swap just to make the whole rwd thing a little easier.
i wanted to do a 350z swap into a 190e mercedes. lol...maybe next time

Cool.

Although something like http://www.tigerjapanese.com/index.p...mart&Itemid=26 would probably be the easiest, I am trying to loacte an 00 max that was rear-ended so I can use the front cosmetics on my wife's car. At that point I will have on hand the extra engine from the parts car but I guess parting out the rest of the parts car would probably be the easiest and then take that $ to look for 350z parts
Thanks for the real answers.
