02 Maxima turning over but not starting. Crank/Cam sensor? KEYS?!

I searched and found a thread where someone was having a similar problem, but that car so many other issues it was difficult to decipher or isolate one. I got in the car after work yesterday and the car just cranked and cranked and cranked with no start. Checked fuse pump fuse, its good. I can hear the pump "prime" (I think) so I dont think thats it. I even did a quick carb cleaner spray to see if it would fire. Nope.

I have an 02 6 speed with 105k miles. Changed plugs about 4 months ago. This car has given me 0 problems since I had it until now. My thoughts went straight to cam/crank shaft position sensor since something similar happened in another car of mine. I dont think it has anything to do with the weather, I've let the car sit for over a week in much colder temps than this and have had no issues.

Anyone have any insight or experience with a similar situation?

If it were the crank sensor, you should have a check engine light. Another possibility is the NATS security system. Nats would cause the security led in with the clock to be on.

No check engine light, and I even hooked up my scanner to check for codes/stored codes. LED in clock flashes, but is not constantly on. Thanks for the info.

UPDATE:

So the valet key, or rather a spare key that I had made appears to be starting the car just fine. But my regular key is not. Almost sounds like all of a sudden something happened with the coding. Ever heard of this?

It seems like there are a lot of weird issues happening recently. There have been a bunch of threads with strange problems. I wonder if somehow the cold weather is somehow causing it.

Technically speaking, when you refer to a valet key, you are talking about a key that does not have the RFID chip in it. Without the RFID chip, the key will never start the car. Nissan's intention is that you can give someone (a valet?) a key to get things out of the car but insure that they can't start and drive off with it.

A valet key will allow the valet the park and retrieve the car, but deny access to the glove box and trunk. I've never really tried that out myself, but that's the intent. So either that 3rd key that came with my car is a valet key, or it's a trunk-only key. I wonder...

Someone is sure to answer that question before the day is out.

The red key is not a valet key its just for unlocking the doors/trunk (in case you lock yourself out?) i only got 2 with mine so im not sure what your 3rd one is lol

I received 2 black keys, each paired with a remote fob, and 1 grey key. It's what came with the car when bought new in 2002. So... the grey one isn't a valet key, it's a door/trunk key? I need to go find that thing and be sure.

Now that I think about it, it might actually be maroon, and not gray.

I'm totally muddying up this thread! Sorry.

My mistake with the term "valet key." I have a funny looking key that I can carry in my wallet. I have never used it and dont carry it though. I have another "spare" key that I had a locksmith make and code foer me, and at the same time he made me a flip out key with key I got when I bought the car. This flip out key is the one that is no longer working.....the red security light stays lit and the car will not start. The "spare" key works fine however.

So my problem is kinda solved, I'll ASSume I need to get the flip out key re-coded somehow and use the spare until then.
