Transmission fluid change vs. flush on high mileage 2000 5 spd
Transmission fluid change vs. flush on high mileage 2000 5 spd
Want to get some good gear oil in my trans to help alleviate some of the resistance when shifting occasionally, such as the infamous 3rd gear notch. A couple questions:
1) With 182,xxx miles, would you just change the gear oil or is it worthwhile to do a full flush?
Planning on getting Amsoil 75W90 GL4, FSM states 4.5Q for a fluid change, do I need more if I have it flushed?
Thanks in advance

I drained and filled my auto several times. At 100K I decided to have the tranny flushed, I was pleasantly surprised with the results: smoother shifts and better performance(seat dyno).
High mileage automatics that have not had regular fluid changes should not be flushed.
