Would you like to operate your windows without the key in the ignition? Follow the steps below to accomplish this. This will work on 2000-2001 Maximas and I believe it should work on previous ones.

1. Remove the panel directly under the steering wheel by removing the 2 screws at the bottom left and right sides of the panel and then pulling the top of the panel out. The top is held in by 3 clips.
2. Directly to the right of the fuse box you will see an elongated blue relay. This relay supplies power to the windows and the sunroof. Remove this relay.
3. Look at the female connection to this relay. There are 4 terminals. The top 2 terminals connect to the relay coil, and the bottom 2 terminals connect the end terminals of the relay switch. The diagram on the case of the relay will show this.
5. Install a jumper wire connecting the 2 bottom female terminals (use 16 guage wire). This will bypass the switch so that the windows will always have power.
6. Install the relay back into its original position.
7. Voila! Your windows can now be operated without the key. This whole operation should take less than 30 minutes.

I have done this modification on at least 25 cars of various makes and models - some of them being very challenging. If you run into trouble, e-mail me at: Rnatale@tampabay.rr.com. Let me know how you make out.

As I have mentioned, I have done this modification on over 25 cars. This modification in no way will affect any other component in the Maxima. In some GM cars the blower motor had to be rewired also, but not with most other cars. This simple and quick modification will work just fine.
The easiest cars to modifiy are those with the power window relay in the engine compartment - nothing to disassemble.
GOOD LUCK

Good Stuff.

Man, I love it when people come up with stuff like this. Just takes forgetting to roll the windows a couple times to think up stuff like this.

I didn't even think of such a simple solution, thanks.

windows...

anyone know if its possible to rewire the windows on the 5th generation 2000 maxima that they operate like in the 4th generation with the keyfob? if u hold down the buttons on the keyfob in the 4th generation the windows go down all the way by themselves... if its possible that would be a cool mod... also i would make it do all windows and sunroof...
lemme know if possible
thanks

VERY SMART!!!

Why don't you figure out ANOTHER way to make it SOOOOO much easier for a car theif to steal your car??

I bet i could get in any one of those cars you've done that mod on within 30 seconds.

Delay

The factory setting is that if you turn off the car, you have approximately 60 seconds to close your windows or your sunroof. If you open a door within the 60 seconds, the extra power is gone and you have to turn the key to finish closing. That's why it works sometimes and sometimes not. Again, if you shut off the car and DON'T open a door, you have 60 seconds to close stuff. The second you open a door-any door (even a passenger door), you're done.

cool thanks
i like that better than having it constantly on... i dunno i have a little fear of killing the battery if i make the conversion... that 60 sec. thing seems pretty good...

Re: windows...

Psing,

YOu are right about being not too smart regarding the hi wattage bulbs. Let me give you a little inside on wut can happen to you max..
1 The higher output bulbs generate more ( a lot) more heat than the stock bulbs. The wiring harness in our can are not design to take the heat, therefore somewhere down the line you gonna burn out those wires.
2 Nissan does NOT sell the relay for the head lights alone. It is sold as a part of a whole wire harness consists of about 30 wires. Now here is the f***ed up part.
Price... 1200 beans. "each" !!!

So If i were you i will save my money and get the real HID kit and not worry about wire melt-downs..

Why does this make it easier to break in?

I do like the delay feature also, but I'm usually just plain stupid and in a hurry and wind up opening my door - DOH!!!

Here is what you should do to find out which relay operates the power windows. Turn the key on and off the accessory position while feeling the different relays. You should be able to feel which relay is clicking. This is probably the power window relay. Pull out this relay. The power windows now should not operate. Look on the relay for a wiring diagram. Connect a jumper wire between the switching terminals. You should use a multimeter to make sure that these are the correct terminals.
If the power windows still operate after you remove the relay, then you must hunt around for the relay that causes the windows not to operate after that relay is removed.
GOOD LUCK !!!

It actually only does it for the front doors. You can open the backdoors -- at least in mine. I dunno why. I wish it only killed the timer if you opened the DRIVER's door. I can't control what my passenger does, and it annoys the hell out of me to have to put the key back in the ignition coz one of my friends was too *******ed impatient to wait until I get the moonroof closed!!!

ok done venting.
