350Z MASS AIR FLOW WORK ON 02 MAX?

My mass air flow went out again.... A freind has a junk yard with a 350Z. I can pick up a mass air flow cheap from him, but will it work? If anyone has tried this i need to know soon before I go spend $300+ on a new one... Someone please help.

Thanks.

After googling it ... looking at the pic's I don't see where the thermistor is mounted or where it would even attach. Mind you it did list the items for 350Z or I35

It's a different sensor. The 04+ Maxima uses the Z sensor though.

Here's my help...

Search the forums and shop else where. $300 for a freaking MAF? Try again!

Hint: Start with a '00-'01 MAF.

While we're talking 'bout MAFs, I swapped mine out for one I pulled off a junked 2002 GXE (super rare, finding a GXE!), and the one out of my '02 SE and that '02 GXE were totally different. And, when I say totally different, I mean sort of different. The one from the junkyard was longer than the one from my car, and the one from my car looked like the one from the "How to clean your MAF" writeup, complete with the little piece of metal inside one of the airports.

Is the longer one a 5th gen? The thermistor was present on the junkyard MAF. I just drove 200 miles on the "new," cleaned MAF and the car hasn't given me any trouble. I hit a record high 25.5 MPG pure highway (with 4 adults, cruising an average of about 75), so I think the thing is functioning very well, even if it looks a bit different.

I think the junkyard one looked like his 5th gen, but there was not a single sign that the wire was added after-the-fact. Did the re-designed 5.5 gen MAF use a design that looks more like the 5th gen? My car had a December '01 build date, the junker was something like a summer '02 build date.

That's weird. All 00-03 MAF's should look the same. Just the 00-01's are missing that little bastard.

It WILL work, depending on the year.

I know for sure that a 2003 350z MAF will work in an 02/03 Max.

I saw this phenomenon last week. The one on the left is what was in my 02 when I got it. Apparently had been replaced by the dealer at one point before I got the car. The one on the right I got from DaveB from an 00-01 and transferred the thermistor over. I have 3 total with 2 being the longer ones. What gives?

I have seen 02-03 maf's that are different in length as well.
However to answer the original question, the maf will work however the connector will have to be used from the 350z as well. The maxima maf connector will not plug into the 350z maf. Also the shape where it mounts as well is different.

Basically it is not plug and play

Might be like the phenom of the early G MAF's working. Never heard of the early Z MAF's working b/c they still have the A34 ECU connector. :srcatch:

Interesting.

Nope, they're just a bit longer. Now that I think of it, I used an 00 in my 03, and yeah, a bit longer but the connector is the same.

Pictures of the original 2002 SE MAF, build December 01, the shorter MAF, vs the MAF found in the junked 2002 GXE, build date summer '02. The junked car showed no other signs of modification.

So the GXE's was from a 3.0L and someone just modified it with such care that I couldn't even tell the wire was added after the fact, or is it something else entirely?

Well the mass air flow that i was gunna get, The guy doesnt want to sell the MAF off a good motor so he didnt sell after all. :/ so i ordered one online overnighted for $275. Auto zone wanted 363, advanced waned 329.99+tax, oreiley was 289+tax, and napa wanted to ship mine off and rebuild it for 219. So overall looks like it worked out for me. The car never had any issues untill i installed a JIM WOLF TECH pop charger... Does anyone think that is just a coincidence? or should i go back to stock? I figured i miss handled the original one, Thats why it went out within 10 miles of installing the pop charger, But now, 2500 miles later, The brand new one goes out.... What gives?

Wow, Jesus man. You could have got one from Dave Burnette from Southpoint Nissan for 95$. Send it back, and get one from Dave, save the $$$.

But then again, I am the one who bought a passenger GSP axle 14k miles ago and just replaced it with the OP (DSS) axle because the GSP was a POS. So maybe that's it...

...I can't be trusted anymore.

I have searched about 12 different online stores and every local parts store. I work full time and coach a lacrosse team after work. I can only spend so much time searching for this when I had to make a decision today with minimul time to kill.

What i need to know is should i keep the JWT pop charger or go back to stock?

Keep the POP charger and call Dave B @ southpoint after you send it back, if not, remember for next time you could save over 100$.

DAVE B's number for OEM parts is
888-254-6060

He works at Southpoint Nissan in Texas.
