Front end lift and sway at wot

Need some help here i have an 03 6 speed max and i have a front end clunk that seems to be clunking on the low side on both sides.Under wot in first and second gear it seems to be lifting way too high in the front which creates a heck of alot more torque steer, its almost hard to hang on to.Not sure if the clunk is related to that or not but either way the front end is sloppy somewhere.stock suspension with 60k.Did oem links 3 months ago and sway bar bushings, the lower torque mount bushings look perfect as do the lca bushings and the passenger side motor mount doesn't seem to have abnormal play in it.Everything is tight as a drum. Its got 3 of the best mechanics i know stumped including me.Any help would be appreciated thanks for any info.

Yep, struts seem stiff/no leaks, lca's are tight but havn't checked axles.I did my oil change about a half hour ago and was checking everything and noticed if I push from directly under the tranny up there is some play there and also under hard acceleration it seems to take a little longer to put the power to the ground especially during take off and between shifts.motor is running perfect ??

Don't drive WOT. Problem solved.

Jeez, ALL of our cars have huge torque steer in 1st and 2nd gear under heavy throttle, that's what they are famous for.

Oddly enough though, my 6MT had a lot less torque steer than my 4AT did.

That's torque steer and that's what happens when you drive these cars like that.

I know what torque steer is, i had a 95 Taurus SHO 5speed with a vortech on it and a 97 eagle talon TSI with a 20g turbo that was just over 400 horse. The front end is coming up to high and wheelhoping when it peaks. The car had torque steer before but what ever is loose or broke is causing it to do it alot more and whatever that clunk is.Idk

If the lower motor mounts dont look bad is there any way to check them by using a pry bar or something ?

I'd also look at the inner and outer tie rods. How's the tire wear on the front tires? Even all the way across?

Yes, these cars are fwd and have torque steer. However, the OP's problem should not be written off so quickly because of this. When I first moved into my 5.5 at the end of last year, I couldn't believe how much torque steer there was compared to my 4th gen. The steering wheel would literally pull out of my hands(left and right) at WOT, the tires would not have traction until above 40 mph, and the front end never felt consistent in curves and over bumps. At 120k, I knew there was a lot of maintenance that should be done. So I did it all. The biggest contributor to my torque steer were worn inner tie rods (I have never seen ITRs worn this much). I R&R the entire suspension which helped quite a bit more. With the 6spd, my torque steer is now virtually non-existent comparatively speaking. Night and day. With a couple inexpensive mods mixed in there, the car actually handles very well for a FWD land yacht.

These cars are about a decade old and usually have over 100k miles on them. As a new owner, chances are you will have to perform a lot of normal repairs. The greatest value mod for most new owners will be maintenance.

SN: I drive WOT multiple times a day, every day. Handles just fine.

Well Rochester recommended lower tourqe mounts before and he said it helped with wheelhop and tightned things up a bit so ill start there I guess but the wheelhop isnt my main concern its mainly the front end coming up to high and the almost uncontrolable tourque steer. Also do these cars have tranny mounts ?

It's here where I remind people: Rochester is not a mechanic.

That disclaimer aside, try putting the emergency brake on full, engage the transmission, and observe how much lift you're seeing in the engine when you give it some thottle. This is a 2-person thing, obviously. Probably not best to have the observer stand in front of the car, but that could be fun, too.

If the engine lifts in a way that makes you go "uh oh", then your motor mounts are probably weak. Typically, the only mounts that need to be addressed are the Torque Mounts; (i.e., the "side" mounts, which are front and back for our transverse engine.) However, the passenger mount and transmission mounts have been known to poop out, too.

It's the engine mount connected to the transmission.

What the heck?

We're all noobs, in one way or another.

I created this thread here last year as a small effort to de-noob myself. In it you'll see me ask a whole bunch of obvious questions. Nothing quite as crystal clear as hindsight, eh?

MMI's would help that torque link out a lot. IMO, MMI's should be done before the ETL.

yup your right when i was gutting my cat last night i noticed they need replacing, ones puking fluid and the other one looks stretched but i think the reason you said to get mmi's in the first place is because the ETL kinda puts alot of pressure on them right ?
